HVGBES , EDITOR Saturday andSunday last were two of the most pleasant and beautiful days it has ever been our lot to expe¬ rience. On Thursday the 24th inst a Miss Worley invited her friends to be present at the marriage ceremony to be performed betwixt herself and a Mr. Laccunt; the guests were all x»resent at the appointed time, but there was no groom, After quite a while the was-to-be g oom made his appearance in bis every-day field clothes, and a what-in-the-world-does- this-mean expression on his face, inquired the reason of so many peo¬ ple being there, Some one informed him of the cause of the crowd and it is said he could have been knocked out in one round by a two months old puppy, he was so surprised. r Ihe fact of the matter was he did not know he was to be married, and as a matter of course was net. The guests all par- took good humoredly of the refresh- inents'jirepared by the parents of the the bride, and dispersed. Up to date the ceremony has not been per form- etl. A few nights since some young gentlemen of Tallulah sought to have some fun, and also rid the town of a nuisance by rocking the house occu- pied by some females of disreputable character. They had not thrown a very great number of stones until the door of the door of the house was suddenly thrown open, and the figure of a man stood in the door and began shooting, The shot dropped pretty thick around the rockists, and they became convinced that discretion was the bettor part of valor. It was the kind of flight that old soldiers would call a stampede. Two of the boys left in such a hurry that they paid no attention whatever to distance or di¬ rection, and as a natural result before they had run more than half an hour, they ran off of the precipice at the river, and fell something over eighty feet before they found anything on which to plant their agile fee:; one succeeded in scaling the cliff that night, but the other remained at the base until ho was discovered by his friends the next day. He hail to be drawn up by a rope to escape from his confinement; the remarkable part of the story is, that neither of the K boys were oven scratched from their tre¬ mendous fall. Married on Saturday the 24th inst. at 12 m.,at the residence of the bride’s father, Mr. E. M. Ledbetter to Miss T. O. Queen. Hon. W. S. Long,Or¬ el nary, officiating. Quite a number of the friends of the bride and groom were present, and all partook of a bountiful dinner and dispersed. We wish that the pathway of tiie young people may be as pleasant and fr> e from thorns, as it is possible to be on tbA earthly sphere. J. M. Marsengill carried off a load of cabbages, so-called red apples, &c. Vinegar factories may confidently ex¬ pect a rapid decline in 'the price of their produce as long as John’s apples last. J. A. Swafforil, the representative of A. M. Robinson k Co. was in town last Monday. Gus looked as familiar as a basket of chips. A WORD OF ADVICE. Tho writor has frequently noticed the great increase of tenants on the various farms for the last few years, and the comparatively small number of Land owners. This is all wrong, a man rents a piece of land for years, and pays enough rent to nearly, if not quite.half pay for the landhe rents;and aside from that,he cannot possibly have the homo feeling or interest for him¬ self or family, that he would have if he were lord of the manor. He is not one whit better than a traveler, who stops to feed his team by some sparkling streamlet, and notes the varied beauties of the surrounding scenery, but takes only a passing *.»««; katwiag full we.! that must s*x>u be up and going. So it is with the renter, at the end of a year he must be looking for fresh and d wellinje. Would it not be im mensely better for him to buy a •cresof ... land, and i if •* i be cannot , THOTJS AND DOLLARS. Your general officers can serve the interests, dear alike to your hearts and theirs, in better ways than by meddling in local difficulties of which they cannot get an impartial knowledge, and in which their inter¬ ference would but complicate the situation.
