Cicero Blalock, the gentlemanly tax collector of Rabun county was the busiest man we know of on Friday last. II. A^Keener of Persimmon was in town on Monday last, rushing around in a brand new road cart, and smiling all over his face. There were two white horses in town on last Monday and nary a red¬ headed woman. Are all signs going to fail in this warm and dry Decem¬ ber? Saturday last was the day for let¬ ting the building of the public- bridge across the Tallulah River at Burton’s store. The town presented quite a lively appearance with all tho mer¬ chants doing a rushing busines. Wonder what the Rev. Tra Hicks thinks about Ins prophecy of the weather for December? To use the chaste and elegant language of Arte- meus Ward, the Nkws thinks he has busted. On Saturday last we noticed*!!. B. Ritchie, J. M. Ritchie, L. Arrendale, JL C. Blalock, Cicero Blaloc.k, Edw. itton and A. G. Dillard in town, ’heso are all representative men of his county, and were taking a great iterest in the public bridge lotting. - o - W. R. Hav- lag Obtained a horse of Bro.J.IXanp- ston, a road cart of Bro. S. A. Beck and a harness of Mr. T. II. Tam O’Shan- ter’s celebrated mare never ran half as fast. 1 he scribe was handling the ribbons, and Bro. Marsengill, think- ins, he could do better, reached over and took the lines and threw his itn- mense weight • ir against • them and , shout i , ed “Whoa!” in a voice of thunder, and then another scene in the drama oc- curred; our Pegasus began kicking ,Y like one possessed, , and 1 sending „ n , lin „ the the footboard of the cart flying by our heads in the form of kindling wood. He did so,and strange ° to relate, ’ he"eclipsed r tho per- r formauce of Bro.
