THE ELECTION.
The election at this plac*
throughout this county passed
quietly. Everybody, with a few
ceptions, seemed to be of one mind
and that was to vote for Cleveland
and white supremacy, hence no oc¬
casion for much electioneering.
Habersham’s majority for Democ¬

banner county of the 9th Congres¬

Toccoa put on city style Thursday
night by buying the Western Union

TIIE PRATHER BRIDGE.
Mu. Editor: —In view of the ap¬
proaching county elections, now
seems a good time to agitate the sub*
sect of repairing the bridge over the
Tugalo river at the Prather place.
This bridge, as evet v one knows, was
built by private subscription, large
amounts having been given by land
owners on both sides of the river and
by business men in Toccoa, on con>
j j dition that the necessary repairs
should be kept up by Habersham
county. This equitable arrangement
has not been carried out and in con¬
sequence Toccoa has suffered great
pecuniary loss in the withdrawal of a
large trade from Oconee and adjoin¬
ing counties, wide!) has been diverted
to other pointB since the condition of
the bridge stopped travel this way.
2bis is a matter of interest an im¬
portance to all public spirited citi¬
zens, considering the advantages
Toccoa would derive from the rebuild,
ing of this bridge and resumption of
the now suspended traffic.
Some of our influential business
men have only to take charge of the
affair and push it with sufficient pner-
gy, and presto! the much needed re*
pairs will be an accomplished fact.
