ANNOUNCEMENTS.
rou BAir.irF.
I announce myself a candidate for
adi f of 1'occoa District at nest
muary election J. J. Cox.
FOK SHERIFF.
Georgia, County of Habersham.
To the voters of said county: I have,
as you know, been for some time can¬
vassing among you ftr your support
for Sheriff at the primary to be held
l)ec. 6 th. I have examined the situ¬
ation tnoroughly and have learned
some things that satisfy me beyond a
doubt that one, or possibly two mcr.
arc engineering tilings so as to suit
themselves and intend to so shape the
the aspirants for the office of Sheriff
so as not to give the candidates not
m the ring a fair chance. I am wholly
in favor of giving every man an op¬
portunity to fairly go before the peo¬
ple for their suffrages, and am op¬
posed to any one or two men dicta¬
ting who can run or who can vote.
Therefore I take this method of with¬
drawing my name from the primary,
and do now announce myself au iu-
dependeut democratic candidate for
the office of Sheriff, to be determined
at the regular election in January by
the people and tlie whole p>eople.
c ome before you as a democrat, and
to any’ who don’t know me I
fully refer to A. W. Harper, Prof.
Dennis and Burgess Suntl^ who saw
me vote m the election at Mt. Airv,
the above gentlemen being managers
of the election at that place.
Respectfully, Jerry Sellers.

The Germans are not as a rule
happy in their titles of books, al-
though Frey.tag wrote “Soli tmd
Habeu,” and Paul Iieyse “Kinder der
Welt.’’ These, it is hardly necessary
to add, are novels. Indeed, it is to
the novel or the play that the title
means most The French are adept
in this sort of tiling L'Homnie qui
Hit" is one example of a felicitous
choice. The titles of some modern
plays, such as “Le Monde ou l'on
s’ennuie” and “Un Verre d'Eau,” are
other examples. However, we need
not go so far afield for happy seiee
tions. Cur own novelists and dram-
atists have shown much ingenuity
in this line.
Shakespeare of course has been a
mine of wealth to them. The use of
quotations and proverbs is a modern
trick, many of the earlier titles, with
their long digressions “Concerning
This, That and the Other,” being as
good us the preface, which has also
been largely discarded. It is not sur¬
prising, therefore, to find that Mr.
Howells has almost invariably gone
to the great dramatist. “The Quality
of Mercy*” “A Modern Instance,”
“The Undiscovered Country”—these
are a few cf them, and all tersely de¬
scriptive. Mrs. Oliphant remember-
ed her Shakespeare when she named
one charming novel “The Primrose
Path,” and Mr. Hardy must have
been reading “As You Like It” when
he called his rural painting of the
Dutch school “Under the Greenwood
Tree.” Tennyson, too, has been
drawn upon for “Airy, Fairy Lit
iian A Daughter of the Gods” and
