The Beautiful Snow.
The first snow of any
that has fallen here this winter
Wednesday night. It covered
the ground to a depth of about one
inch, and added much to the beautt
our town and the adjacent hills.
Although the sun shone bright
t | lf , next two da^s, its rays did not
f urn j s |i sufficient warmth to thaw
more than half of the snowy covering
of housetops and ground, and at this
writing (Friday afternoon) out-of-

T he snow will be beneficial to the
grain crops and i he shoe dealers and
furnish amusement to the children.

Toccoa Falls.
We have only one excuse to make
and that is, ‘-We can’t help it.” We
have seen Toccoa falls and we are
obliged to say something about it,
: although know of
we many our
readers are familiar with the appear¬
ance of this marvelous and beautiful
specimen of nature’s handiwork.
Toccoa creek is not a large stream,
but it is a picturesque o ue.Fr ora
its mountain sources it comes bab-
biing and hurrying, like a small boy
that l.as been loiterirg along the
way to school and suddenly realizes
that he will have to hasten to escape

But suddenly in its rapid flight
the mountain stream is confronted
by a yawning precipice. In some
reak, or impelled by a mighty
force, Nature lias torn from one
side of a gigantic rock all that cnce
was there and left a vast wall of
granite, seamed and scarred in the
struggle, apparently, but perpendic¬
ular and 186 feet in height.
The stream does not hesitate, and
as if scorning danger, it gleefully
accelerates its speed over a few feet
of sloping rock, and then leaps gent*
ly and gracefully. As it descends
it sprees out and divides beco,hint-
two long twin sheets of thin, milk-
white , . which ... , , .
spray, 1 rebounds lroin
t!ie rociis below and is scattered
many feet distant. In the sunshine
tiie falls give forth the colors of the
rain ow and make a charming pic¬
ture.
When we visited the
Toccoa fads, on the rocks just below
was spray frozen thick, and in divers
t p- u i shapes. White as snow
was the ic“, and while gazing upon
the awe-inspirif.g scene one could
almost fa lie v that he was m the won-
derful arctic region?.
Up on the rocks from which Toc¬
coa creek 1 eglns its Jong leap one
may get a pretty view of Toccoa,
two miles distant, the houses of
which, with their various colors,
please the e as they dot the lofty
hills.
