A SPECIAL COURT.
Judge Klmsey Calls a Special
Session of Court tor the
3 rd Monday 1n Hay.
Special Correspondence to Tkk Timm
Clayton, of Ga., of April 15—The
clerk court this county has re¬
ceived a letter from Judge Kimsey
telling him to give notice of a
special term of superior court to
commence Monday, May 18th, to
try the Fowler bays for the murder
of Mr. Beck, besides attend to all
other matters coming before the
court.
Judge Kimsey proposes to try in
the six or eight prisoners held
our jail at this time, thus reducing
the expense of the county consid¬
erably. that if
It is said here the Fowler
boys get a fair and impartial trial
they will come claar, have though Mr,
Beck’s relatives more money
to prosecute the case with than the
Fowler’s to defend themselves.
There has been an effort to
judice the public in favor of Mr.
Beck through newspaper corres¬
pondence, but it is known here
that the Dodson boys, two of them
and Beck, were looking for the
Fowlers charging whiskey them from with Beck, steal¬
ing a keg of
and when the fight commenced the
Dodsons ran away, after knocking
one of the Fowler’s in tbe head
with a rock. There were only two
of the Fowlers in the fight and
Jno. Fowler in his statement to
the coroner’s jury said that he was
the only man who in any way
touched Beck, and then it was on¬
ly when Beck had a rock drawn
back ler) ready in to throw, Beck and that he him. (Fow¬
ran on cut
The Dodsons are said to have
been engaged by Beck in illicit dis
tiling, in fact the whole crowd, tbe
Fowlers included, is said to have
been distilling moonshine whiskey.
The best people of our county
are forming themselves into a secret
order for tbe purpose of reporting
and breaking up this illicit whiskey
businest, and it is fair to presume
that they will succeed. D.
