King Edward of England, is
still very |sick and there are grave
apprehensions that We will never
•* crowned.
A good many years ago, when
Jay % Gould wrote his check for
$2,000,000 the fame of so extra¬
ordinary event went round the
world, and when a few years later
VV. A. Vanderbilt gave a single
order on his bank for $6,000,000
the utmost limit in this direction
was believed to be reached, But
recently J. Pierpont Morgan wrote
a check for the amazing sum of
$25,000,000.
A Norfolk young man, cashier
of a railway concern, who commit¬
ted suicide the other day, was men¬
tally unbalanced because of drink¬
ing tea “and soft drinks in which
cocoa is an ingredient.” How are
we possibly to escape all of the
pitfalls that surround poor human
nature! If we drink whisky it will
send us into the gutter and finally
to a pauper’s grave; if we drink
coffee it will unstring our nerves
and kill us with dyspepsia, and if
we drink tea and “soft drinks” we
run the risk of insanity and a suu
cide’s death. Is it little thin
pump-water, at long intervals and
without ice, the only safe course?
’’Starvation by Injunction.”
Judge Keller of the federal court
has granted an injuncteon against
several men in the West Virginia
coal fields, to prevent them from
iurnishing food and clothing to the
striking coal miners, fc 4 Govern-
ment by injunction,” which has
been the cry for several years, is
now changed to “Starvation by in¬
junction.” Verily, the ways of
the mine owners and federal Judges
in toe northern part ot Uncle Sam’s
domain, are as dark and queer as
those of the Heathern Chinee. But
this last act of theirs will be a
boomerang for the administration
at Washington, if they allow it 10
stand.
A YOUNG LADY’S LIFE SAVED.
At Panama, Colombia, by Cham¬
berlain’s Colic, Cholera and
Diarrhoea Remedy.
Dr. Chas. H. Utter, a promin¬
ent physician, of Panama, Colom¬
bia, in a recent letter states: “Last
March I had as a patient a young
lady sixteen years of age, who had
a very bad attack of dysentery.
Everything I p*escribed for her
proved ineffectual and she
growing worse every hour,
parents were sure she would die.
She had become so weak that she
could not turn over in bed. What
to do at this critical moment was a
study for me, but I thought ot
Chamberlain’s Colic,Cholera Diar¬
rhoea Remedy and as a last result
prescribed it. The most wonder¬
ful result was effected, Within
eight hours she was feeling much
better; inside of three days she was
upon her feet and at the end of
one week she n « entirely well.”

A Cure for Cholera Infantum.
“Last May,” says Mrs. Curtis
Baker, of Bookwalter, Ohio, “an
infant child of our neighbor’s was
suffering from cholera infantum.
The doctor had given up all hopes
of recovery. I took a bottle of
Chamberlain’s Colic, Diarrhoea
Remedy to the house, telling them
I felt sure it would do good if used
according to directions. In two
days’ time the child had fully re¬
covered, and is now (nearly a year
since) a vigorous, healthy girl. I
have recommended this Remedy
frequently and have never known
it to fail in any single instance.”

Court-House
Judge Crow and County Com¬
missioners Andrews and Looney,
of Franklin county, were in town
Thursday inspecting our court
house and jail with a view to put¬
ting up new public buildings in
Carnesvile. They could not do
better than take our court house as
as a model, for it is the best court
house in the state fur the money,
but we cannot say as much for our
jail. The Franklin people have
not fully decided to build, but are
making investigations as to cost,
etc., with that object in view.
This is not the lirst time officials
of other counties have been here
inspecting our court house, as jt is
universally acknowledged to be a
splendid building. Clarkesville
Advertiser.

MERITS OF WIRE FENCING.
Its Economy,Durability and Con¬
venience Increase Its Sale in
the South.
In nothing is the energy and en-
terprise of the South shown more
than in the rapidity with which it
it adopting woven wire fencing,
for enclosing large plantation or
smale gardens, The American
F ield and Hog Fence is being sold
in great quantities throughout the
South and reports from all sections
indicate that the results exceed the
expections aroused by the hearty
recommendations of this fence by
the farmers of the North and
ranch owners of the West.
Some of the features which
makethis fence peculiarly adapted
to the needs of planters are its
economy, its great durability,' the
ease and rapidity with which it
can be erected, and the complete
protection it affords to stock and
crops. Such a fence woud not be
possible excepting for the low price
prevailing for steel products and
the fact that it is manufactured in
enormous quantities to supply the
demand coming from all parts of
the country. It is constructed of
the best Bessemer steel, heavily
galvanized and in the quality and
quality of the galvanizing and in
the methods of weaving the fence
there has been a great improve¬
ment.

Navigator Crowninshield.
[Indinapolois News]
Of course, it would be unfair to
say that Rear-Admiral Crownin-
shield is responiable for the mishap
to the battleship Illinois, because
as yet little is known of the cir.
cumstances. But Crowninshield
has certainly been unfortunate in
his experience rs a navigator. Sev¬
eral years ago his conduct while in
commaed ofa vessel was made the
subject of investigation by a court
of injury, and it is said that he was
acquitted only because two mem¬
bers of toe court were afraid of his
“pull.” Schley, who was a mem¬
ber of the court, voted to censure
Crowninshield, hut the other offi¬
cers voted to acquit him The de¬
partment was notified that he was
not qualified to command a vessel,
and he was assigned to duty in the
bureau of navigation In that posi¬
tion he had a chance to get
with Schley a few years later.
There was such a feeling of relief
at getting Crowninshield away
from Washingion that little was
was saidin criticism of his appoint¬
ment to his present command. We
imagine that a good deal will be
said now. For if he was uufit to
command a ship in 1897, as he
was said to be, he is still unfit,
having had no experience since
that time.
