Esq., of New York, .1. Pane. Roberts, Esq., of
Philadelphia, and W. W. Wellington, Esq., of Boa

gentlemanly, and cbivalronstrio. I
They are all at the South on pleasure, and at the
same time prospecting in the interest of their Wsi
nes» connections, Which we feel assured, can never
suffer while so completely represented by themselves.
We are ever proud of an opportunity like the
present, wherein we are enabled to express our joy
at the comiug amongst us, in any capacity, of in
telligent, appreciative, and discriminating Northern
gentleman, who will impartially revie4|sur situa
tion, and be forced to admit . the baseness of
the partisan feeliug encouraged by leading
journals and iloli.icians, on the faith of the office
seeking carpet-baggers, who, like the wily parisite,
have emplarited their vile and foyl clutches upon
the vitality of our section. It argues, forcibly, our
cause, at the bar of public opinion North, when they
go home and inform their friends of the condition of
affairs here. . 5
We refilln otir thanks, and those of a number of
our best citisens, for the pleasant and agreeable
manner in which these gentlemen have enabled us
to “while an-hour away.” on several occasions.

Many years ago, the writer of them lines and an invalid physician, while visiting the
bland of St. Croix for their health, experienced and witnessed many surprising and
beneficial effects of the Sum there produced upon many of the invalids who were (like
ourselves) seeking health; and, upon inquiry and investigation, obtained a full history
pf its'medicinal virtues. He was delighted and surprised, and. after his own recovery,
which soon occurred, determined, if possible, to procure the sole right to manuflcture
and sell it in the United States. • ' [
The result of his labors was a glorious sucoess for himself and suffering humanity,
Sbr the celebrated PLANTATION BITTERS was thus made known to the world. PLAN
TATION BTTTSRS being an article of real merit, founded upon new principles, and
** relying wholly upon the vegetable world for its medicinal effects, worked a rapid revolu
tion in the history of medicine, and became as a Household word all over the civilized
world. The cabalistic S. T.-1860-2. was a talisman of health, and the demand for
the PLANTATION BITTERS soon fa? exceeded the abilities of the proprietors tt supply.
Notwithstanding the large importation of SL Croix Bum, m*de expressly for the com
pounding of these Bitters, the quantity was'inadequate. It therefore became necessary
• that, arrangements upon an extensive scale abroad should at once be made, and an agent
wae dispatched to Si Thomas for that purpose. He was fortunate in securing and
Uluring several plantations on some of the largest and most productive estates on the
ifiaqfl Houses, stills and presses were erected as if by magic, which utterly aston
ished the natives. ” The services of experienced men and natives of the island were pro*
eured, and rery soon the proprietors of the PLANTATION BITTERS were in a position
♦* to supply their laboratory with all the perfectly pure St. Croix Bum needed in manufsc
turingihe GBIAT DYSPEPTIC TONIC AND INVIGOBATOB. The above cut represent*
j the natives crushing the sugar-cane and otherwise preparing It for the stills and presses.
As an antidote to Fever and Ague, Intermittent and Italarious Fevers, Dyspepsia, and #
- ether kindred diseases, the use of the PLANTATION BITTEBS is unsurpassed in the
history of the world. Over five million bottles, are disposed of annually. They are
adapted to old and young, male and female. They are agreeable in taste, and always
preduoe an immediate beneficial result.
