We cannot describe them better than in the fol lowing effusion of some chap : “Some were black and some were blacker And some were the color of brown tobaco.” Also, some f«jw “white trash.” It seems tbgit a little copper-colored whelp, calling himself Pete was the cause of most of the arrests. Peet has been suspected for some timte of taking money -from different stores. Policeman Andrews having an eye on him caught the young hopeful the other day tucken money what he noed did't blong to him. Pete/eased up but gave the names af half a dozen others, who he said had prompted him to do it, and that he divided with them. Although Pete had acknowledged his guilt, he had contfte) to de fend him. Hnring the examination of witnesses Pete took his seat behind the door to hide from the gaze of those present. After the examination of the witnesses, the counsel prosecuting got up, and opened with some terrific blows on Peite, branding him as an infamous viliian, thief &c. Having a curios l ty to see what impression these would have upon him, we walked aroand and look-j ed behind tho door; when lo! to our surprise, j, , found him with his head thrown back against I wall, mouth wi(le open, and sleeping, a PP a |Hff as sweetly as ar innocent babe, and coutiriuf'ftl * do so through the whole of the argument. Y7ate, counsel for the defence not having noticed ■»■'« being asleep, frequently, during the argumenty called upon the justice to look upon his innocent and youthful fade. The old woman being perfectly satisfied after getting her horse back and receiving fifty dollars as a compro mise, failed to appear against him. So he was turned loose, and, will probably soon, be looking after some other person who can neither read or write, to practice the same game upon. A Card, Messrs. Was he really vicious, or barking simply to hear himsolf? Some have concluded that it was au individual, who was trying to ape the frog, that swelled ‘and swelled until he collap-ed.
