A festival there I hear there will be, And an opportunity we will have all the ladies to see. Why yes quoth the other, of coulee I will go, I was alway's fond of anything, that looked like a show. To the livery stable, we will noiv wend cur way. Five dollars per day, I expect we’ll have to pay. The Quincy girls are a beautiful set, And we’il have a good time of it, now you may bet ; To-rnonow, on two certain young ladies we ll call, And carry them to the festival, there we’ll see them all. Thus sang these young gents, as to the stable they went, Determined to hire a team if it took every cent They had in their pockets. One of the party’fo the keepei did sar, Sir, I want a team to go to Quincy to-day. Gentlemen on me I am glad you have cal led; to me this business is new, And customers so far I haveWfcad only a few, The best team in my stable to you I will give, And Won’t charge you much, my motto is, “live and let live.” Bring forth my bay pony, and my buggy tbats new, This tram gentlemen, I hire to only a few, The. horse is as good a one, as evel was seeft, The buggy 1 fancy, because ’tis painted green. Thus spoke the livery man. The youug men then in the vehicle got, And said, goodby-we'll hurry on, before it gets too hot, So off they xvent, in a very high glee, But how they came out, we shall presently see. We are bully buys, says one to tie-other, We don't caie a cuss for papa, or mother, I’m going to have a good time of it, I „m. And don't care if itcostsjme ten dollars per diam. They dashed along at a terrible rate, What horse-jockevs call a 2 40 gait, Until they had got ten or twelve miles on their way When a buggy they met, tilled with ladies they say. To lot the ladies piss they turned out on the road side, When into a gutter their buggy did slide, Over into a ditch the buggy was thrown; Add tire-gents would have been thvrc yot, W tLey’J been let alone * Bat fortunately for them, a farmer Who vat living close by. And while riding along the wreck he did spy. Quoth the farmer, what in the world is this that l see? Two gents under a buggy can it poss-sibly be ? When the buggy turned over, these young men did fall Right under the vehicle, and they couldn’t move at all, A big stump was there, around which the front wheel was hitched, And the buggy, the horse could not move, though be reared and pitched. They were finally rescued from their perilous sit* uation. And the farmer very kindly gave them an invitation, To go up to his house, and stay there for awhile, I've got some good whisky, we'll all take a ‘smile. ’ Tills invitation was readily accepted, iaint often you'll find such ones rejected, The brubes they received, they didn’t much mind But their feelings were hurt the very worst kind. My visions of Quincy, says one, i6 now o’er, Nor do I care ever to see Bain bridge an}' more. Our hjrse is badly crippled, our buggy’s brokj they say; Jerusalem ! won’t we have a big bill to pay. sis awful, just think of it, to see a few giris, With their hair frized up, and plastered with curls: We have spent what little greenbacks we had. And several hundred more to pay, don't you think it is too bad. Our Foreman informs (is ; tis time to go to press, and we will have to haul of for thv finale in our next issue.
