pretty ladies of Cambridge, accompanied
by the boys in ffrey and Red, Wended their
way to Camp Campbell, the appointed place
but owing to the inclemency of the weather
they all adjourned to the large African
church, now beingcreeled, where the young
people enjoyed themselves by (as Josh
Billings says) “cortrn,” until the commit*
tee of kind ladies wl o assisted the boys to
get up the fun, announced dinner ready.
Wc thjsi* repaired to the fable arid there
we found everything, suited to the taste of
everybody. Captain Lit. had said r
and was about to give the command Jir&,
when our young friend, Mr. Bower, in an
appropriate speech, presented to the Oak
City Company a magnificent cake, the do
nation of Mrs, Whiteley—of course lire
boys gave thrfce cheers and a tiger for that
inestimable lady. . Then tire Rev. Dr.
Hooker was caUed on and responded in his
usual brief amt happy style* After* which,

noon, when they all went home. As
everyone expressed themselves well pleased
we arc glad to say, that in spite
of the rain, the pic-nic was a perfect
success.
