July 4tli, 1869 We have been for the last week floating around generally in old Baker. Thursday last we visited the gay and festive little town of Milford on the Nochaw ay. Biui.« ness there was exceedingly dull. Elections, buoyant. For the past few months they have had ati election for Justice of the Peace every Saturday, and are yet go ing ahead at it. The Governor refusing to commission those who Were formerly cho sen, because they were ngt sufficiently loyal. It is truly a beautiful sight—one upon which the eye delights to linger—to behold the beautiful corn fields that adorn the land. Well may the farmers heart, dance With joy as lie gaze? exultingly upon the broad acres teeming with golden grain. The refreshing showers that have recently gladdened the parched earth, has ensured him a rich harvest of grain. Cotton is doing finely. Genera' “Green,” favored and revived by the kindlv showers rapidly advances upon the snowy staple, and will not readily fail down at the bid ding of the freed man, armed with deadly hoe and formidable plow.
