H. Grouby, Editor and Proprietor of the Early County News. Grouby is a “brick”-—a good many of our citizens were under the impression that he was a cross, crabbed, sour-daced old cuss ; but they were agreeably surprised to find him a clever, whole-souled fellow, always ready and willing Intake a little pizin, pass a joke, &c. Grouby promised us a con siderable amount not to blow on him in this issue, so we will keep mum until we see whether he complies with his contract or wot-. The News is a live Democratic paper, therefore we say success to it, and mAy the shadow of its jolly editor “ never grow less.” Parade of the Oak City Hook and Ladder Company No. 1. —The semi anna! parade of the Oak City ITook and Ladder company took place last Monday' afternoon. Hav ing previously extended an invitation to “Stonewall” Engine Company No. 1, they were joined by the latter at their Truck House at half past four p. m. Hie day was beautiful, and crowds as- sembled to witness the parade of our gal lant firemen. The Oak Cities under Fores man Belcher, in their neat and showy unis form presented a fine appearance, and the splendid manner in which they keep their Ti uck, exhibits the interest the members take in their organization. The “Stonewall” boys under Foreman Watt, never appeared better, and their Engine shown like a mirror. At the corner of Broad and Water, they halted for a short drill, which was alike creditable to our city and Fireman. It is the duty of the inhabitants of Bain* bridge to encourage this noble baud, who are always ready to risk their lives for your loved ones and your property; and they should ever stand foremost in your hearts and hopes. We say success to the Fire Department of Baiubridge. £S> :*Jt JBL Tf 1 9 SSI Compound Unction.
