Rain axd Wind.—A very heavy rain fell here on Tuesday aftefndon aud night— about dark a terrific gale sprung up which lasted about two hours; con siderable damage has been done to fencing, also to the cotton and cane crop in this 6ebtion. Flre Alarm.— At nihe O’clock oh Monday night while sitting in our office, we heard the cry of lire; we soon doDned our “Red Jacket” ahd hurried to the street, where we found a considerable number of citizens congregated, and saw the firemen flying to their respective Engine homes. The alarm proved to be a false ’One, the first cry of fire having been made by some unknown party, which was soon taken up by others. Stonewall Engine com pany and the Oak City Hook arid Ladder company, he it said to their credit, were ptomptly bn hand, and had the fiery demon have shown himkelf, he would have With a formidable foe in the Stonewall and Oak City boys.
