Wanted Something Sweet.— A party of Bainbridges’ most gallant and heroic sons, went out on Tuesday night last, to make war on a bee tree, a few miles from the city. They marched in solid col umn and with regularity ; there was not a faltering heart in their “patriotic ranks. ’’ They were armed with “battle-axes,’ '‘ration buckets,” &c.; they reached the tree, and beneath the fell strokes of the axe, it soon came with a crash to the earth. In place ©f finding a swarm of harmless bees, which they could easily smother to death with a little smoke, they were attack ed in front and rear by about ten thousand hornets, yellowfjackets. wasps, and other kinds of stinging insects, who proved them-* selves able to (fefend their homes, for on their first charge, they broke the ranks of that “noble hand” who came back to town in bad order , jadging from the swollen con dition of their faces, hands and necks. It is needless to add that they left all their honey out in the woods. Well gentlemen our advice to you is to quit trying to “fool that Bee,’' and remember “It is not all of life to live Nor all of death to die.” A Number of Choice Suits for Gentlemen —Competing in style and quality with any that can be found in this market, are for sale at Steinioger aud Eckstein’s Flint River Store. —-* - Homicide. —On Saturday evening last, as Mr* Burrel Bailey, an old and respected citizen of this county, was going from this city to his home about five miles West of the Flint, he got into a difficulty with sev eral negroes, which resulted in the wound* ing of both. Mr. Bailey and a negro who Calls himself Alf Donalson, the former whom died on Sunday morning. The par ticulars of this unhappy affair, as far as we can learn them are as follows; It seems that a certain lot of negroes had been hunting around and about Mr. Bailey’s premises. One morning last week Mr. Bailey found a goat’s hide buried in the ground, and he said it must have been the hunters that killed it. For this remark he was stopped on the road by a crowd of negroes, as before stated, aud in a threatening manner was asked whether or Dot he said they killed his goat. It seems that he satisfied this party, but the prisoner, Alf Donalson, called out from about fifty yards distant and asked what he said; to which some one of the negroes re plied, ‘he said he didn’t say it.’The prisoner saii*he was a d—m liar (meading Bailey,) and advanced towards hiuFwith a bottle of whiskey in his hand, but while advancing drew his knife and also his pistol, repeat* edly calling Mr. Bailey a {d —ra liar, and tried to shoot him but the first barrel of his pistol missed fire. After this at*, tempt to take his life was made, Mr. Bailey snatched a gun off of the shoulder of an old negro standing by and leveled it, ana him and the prisoner both fired at the same time. The negro received a slight wound .in **- e B \j oU *der and Mr.. Bailey vra« shot in the abdomen, from the effect of which he died the next morning. After being shot. Mr. Bailey rode home, but was fired at by two other negroes, whom sheriff Waugh has in custody. The deceased was attended by Dr. Jud son A. Butts, and all was done that Medi cal skill could suggest, but without effect. Ihe above statement was made to us by a very responsible party, and we think we can present them to our readers as sub/* stautially the facts in the case. Although this was in our opinion, one of the most unmitigated and cold blooded murders of the age, we shall leave it for the laws ot the country to decide his fate; hoping “justice may be done though the heavens should fall.” A Visit to the Country. —By an invita tion from a gay and festive friend, we vis? ited a grand “hop’’ thatcameoff a few miles up the banks of the beautiful Flint, on Monday evening last. To say we had a good time and enjoyed ourself, would be a poor excuse for expressing our thoughts on the subject; in other words, Webster forgot to invent words that would make us ade quate to the task of doing justice to the occasion. Everything was in perfect order and everybody was as merry as a “mar riage belle but what is better still, there was “Tripping the light fantastic toe,” about a score or more of Georgia’s fairest daughters, who verified the assertion that the ladies of the Empire State, stand in the front rank of beauty and elegance , but the bewitching Miss she was The fairest girl we ever have seen, She put us in mind of a Fairy Queen. We can assure eur kind friends, who, when they were passing around the invi tations, did not forget the printers, that we shall long have occasion to remember our pleasant trip to the country.
