MY WIFF,S 3KIDAL TOUII.
BY MOSE SKINNER.
When I married my second wife, she was
dreadful set out about going* off on a bri
dal tour. I told l»er she bad better wait
six months or a year, and I’d try to go
with her, but she said she’d raiher go alone;
when a woman was travelling a man was
mi out-and-out humbug.
So I gave her seventy-five cents, and
told her to. go off and have a good time, I
never begrudge money w'lu*ro my wife’s
is concerned- Aly first wife
never could complain of .not going any
who res, for I’m dreadful R"i - c;e to go on a
g<)od tiure myself, and always was. • I don’t
pretend to s«*y how many times I took her
out to see the engine squirt, and there was
no end to the free lectures I let her go to.
The neighbors Used to say : “It does beat
all how the Skinners do go !’’
When Signor Blitz was in SlunkviiJe,
with his wonderful canaries, he gave my
wife a complimentary ticket. I not only'
sold that ticket for mv wife, but I gave
her half the money. I don’t boast of it
though ; only mention it. to show how
much I thought of my wife’s happines.
*' I don’t think a man ought to get mar
ried till he can consider his wile’s happi
ness only second to his own. John Wise,
a neighbor of mine, did thusly, and when
I gp>t married I coueluded I’d do like Wise.
But the plan didn’t work-in the case of
my second wife. No, I should think not#
I broached the subject kindly.
‘Matiidu,’ I 1 - said, “I suppose you are
aware that I am now your lord and mas
ter.’*
4 Not much yon ain’t’ said she
‘Mrs. Skinner.* I/eplied, ‘you arc f>ar
fully demoralized. You need reorganizing
at once. You arc cranky ’ And I brand'
ished my new sixty-two cents umbrella
wildly around her.
She took the umbrella away from roev
•and locked me up in the clothesspress.
1 am quick to draw an inference, and tin*
inference I drew here was,.that I was not
a success as a reorganizer of female wo
man.
After this I changed my tactics. I let
her have her own way, and the plan work*
ed to a charm from the very first. It’s tin*
best way of managing a wife that I know
of. Os course this* \< between you ami np*.
So when my wife was bound to go off oo
a bridal tour anyhow, I cordially assented.
‘Go, M#tilda,’said*l, ‘and stay as long us
you want to ; then if you fell as though
yon would like to stay a little while longer,
stay, rny dear, stay.’
She told me to stop talking and go up
stairs and got her red flannel night c;y\
find that bag of peniiyroyal for her Aunt
Abigail. : V
My wife is a very smart woman. She
was a Baxter, and the Baxters are a very
smart family indeed. Her mother who is
going bn eighty, cun fry more slap-jacks
now, than half these priroped-up city girls,
who rattle on the piano, or else walk the
street# with their furbelows and fixings,
pretending to get mad if a young chap
looks at’em pretty hard, but getting mad
it] earnest if you don’t take any uot ice of
them at all.
Ah | girls ain’t what they used to be
when I was young and the fellows are
worse still. When I went courting for in
stance, I never ttioughtof staying till after
ten O'clock, and only went twice a week.
Now they go seven nights in the week, and
orv because there ain’t eight. They write
touching uotes to each other during the
day. 'Dear George, do you love me as
much now as yott did at quaitor past
twelve lust night ? Say you do, dearest,
and it will give me courage to go do ten
sta is and tackle them cold beaus left over
from yesterday.*
Well,, well ; I suppose they enjoy them
selves. Lvt them get together and court
if rti«y like it, ands think they do. I was
forty-seven when I courted ruy present
wife, but it seemed just as nice to sit on a
tittle cricket at her feet, and let her
smooth may hair, as it did thirty year ugr/.
As 1 said befufe, my wife* is a very smart
worn**, bat she couldn’t be aftythiiqr site.

that they couldn’t refuse.
She tairly dotes on my children, and I’ve

they’d got to sleep, tuid put llieip in hex

them * * * * * 3 *
I started to tell you about my wife’#
bridal tour, but the fact is, I never coELd.
find but much about it myself. I believ#
she had a good time. Site carno back im-*

sh<‘\i been in the house twenty-four hours,
that she’d gained in strength also. 1 don’t
say how 1 found it out. I simply l
found it out.
In conclusion I would *uy to all yourrg
