BUDU--N Death of Major James E. Diceissoh
The community was startled, on Tueesday, with
the announcement of the-death of Maj. James E.
Dickinson, which occnied tf&OOt foaj-o’dbck that
morning. He had been complaining since Friday,
and it was thought that he was suffering from a
slight attack of phneumonia. However, the day
preceeding his death, he was able to walk about
the house, and was considerably better. 4t four
o’uluck on Tuesday mbrniiif Wgot mp and wait
ed into an adjoining room, and staggered into'a
chair.* His wife and eldest non hastened to his
side, only to find that life was extinct.
Maior Dickinson was a native of. Virginia, and
about f rty-eight years of age at the time of his
death. He removed to this city some years prior
to the war, and engaged pretty extensively in
planting. His means were abundant, at that time,
but, in common with almost every true son of the
South, the war left him poniless; yet with the ring
of the true metal he bravely battled t^e
tide of adversity.
An ardent lover of Southern rights he espoused
the cause secession, A noble-minded patriot at
home, ho aided the suffering ones with no miserly
hand ; in the field, he performed with heroic in
tegrity and courage his duty to the common coun
try.
He was generous to a fault mid noble to per
fection . His hospitality was known far and wide,
as many of our readers oan attest; and whether in
prosperity or adversity it was his greatest pleasure
have his friends made happy with him. '
Like everything upon which the stamp of hu
manity rests, he had faults ; but weean well afford
to throw the mantle of charity over them when we
think of his virtues.
The historic events of the decade just past left
their traces upon him. They told upon him both
physically and mentally; and the man of the past
year was no longer the hopeful buoyant being of
days gone by.
To his bereaved .‘family we tender our most
heartfelt sympathies, believing that the good Lord
will temper their sorrows and give them the forti
tude to bear them.
Major Dickinsons remains were buried yester
day with Masonic honors; the Stonewall Fire Com
pany, of which he was an hononary member were
also present at the grave—thereby manifesting
their respect for him who had been so long ideutN
fied with them.
Jake Born, announces to the public that al
though Paris has fallen he is still hard at work
making and selling the best harness, saddles, bri

has a general assortment of leather, such ns sole
leather, calf-skins, kip-skins, &c. He invites the
public to call.
A Fact. —Allday has flour, bacon, lard, sugar
cheese, irish potatoes, sweet, potatoes, Bologna
sausage, apples, orrange , candies, nuts, raisons,
codfish, canned fruits and meats—in fact any and
everything that is calculated to tempt the appetite
of man.

Wrapped Up. — l saw a lady wrapped np in a
shawl that she would not take six hundred dollars
for,” said /Smith to Jones. “I can beat that all
hollow,” retorted Jones, “for I saw a lady so
wrapped up in her baby that she wouldn t have
taken six thousand dollars for it.” And allow us
to say that next to a baby, the greatest source of
pleasure in many houses is the Monumental Cook

The Enterpise should remember, that

Templeton has visited this city three

his company was here last December , the
