The Eatentou Press aud Messenger, of

Homicipk.—On tnesday evening last,
about four o'clock, a difficulty »*cco r r«*d
between Mr. Marion FpUey and young
Dan Claiborn, resulting in the dealh of the
former, by a pistol shot from the hands of
the latter. It appears that Mr Spivey as*
sacited Claiborn with abusive language
and threats and finally picked np a rock
and threw it at him, whereupon Mr. C
commenced firing, and continued until he
he had emptied a smalt six shooter, the
last two shots taken effect, the one iu the
left arm and shoulder, the other entering
the left side, produceing death instantly.

The Bainbrjdgc Thespian Corps.
Mr. Editor. —Some time ago, I noticed
a communication in the Sun from some of
the most prominent citizens of this city,
requesting the Bainbridge Thespian r orps
to favor them with a repetition of their
magnificent play of the Robbers, and also
a communication from the Manager of
the t orps stating that the play would be
rendered at an “early day.” It has now
been two months ago and no play yet. I
hope, and I think that I speak the feeling
of the most of our prominent citizens, that
our tallented Thespian orps, of which our
city has long been. proud to boast of as
the best in the State, are not going to* let
the “cat die.” I hope, Mr. Editor,- that >f
you have any influence you will use it, in
trying to get our favorites to favor us with
another one of their fine performances.
Hoping to hear from tha Thespians soon,-
I sum Respectfully
A citizen.
Albany aNd* Columbus Railroad,—
At A Council meeting in Columbus on-
Monday night last, the committee appoint
ed favored an appi*opriatkm of $200,000 to
the Bainbridge, Cuthbert and Columbus
Railroad, on condition that the money be
spent on the Columbus end of the line,-
that no descriininations be made against
Columbus, that Columbus and Albany
road be allowed to pass over road by pay
ing half its costs that the road shall go
east of Lumpkin, that L. B. Warnoek, If ,
J. Bussey, and James Rankin superinten
dent work, and when they report a mile
ready for superstructure £B,OOO be paid to
President of the road.
Considerable discussion endued for and
against the resolutions or’ suggestion, but
they were finally lost by a vote of 5 again
st 4.
We don’t know what private schemes
are on foot by the officers of the Columbus
and Albany road. Rut it evident
that their candle is hid under a bushel.
Effective organization is necessary to the
building of railroads iliore than almost any
other enterprise, and if the people along
the line of the contemplated road desire
it built, they must either stir-up the of
ficers to zerf-ous action or remodel affairs,
rub out the marks and commence new.
