W HXBB will it E»d?~ Quite a sensation was ere-
on the stivets, on Monday last, by the arrest
and incarceration in tne guard house of a s nail
coloied. girl, who had oeated m»me trregulaiities
on (he street. While in custody, she <w* up a
terrible screaming, winch, a-a means df a hid
deaus noise, was oomplo e success. After she »a*
lodged in prism, quite a number of ueg oes us
semi tied and demanded her release, and strange to
»uij, the unpu is it demini was complied wi.h.
To say the least ’tis simply ridiculoait that a negro,
matters not what the offense, can not be arrested
and placed in confinement but what a mob of suf
frage siinger* shall gather and create, in some
manner, a distmbance. Indeed, we have often
seen it the case where the officers of the city wei«
mitetiiliy interfered within the discharge of their
duties by these impudent negroes, and by no
means se’do n are the iustaners where we, ve beard
these ‘ shining lights** who were not personally
coticeraed, ddating irf lordly terms to our po
liceman, defining, in their own pt culiar way, the
duties of the officers, and always offering impu
dent insinuations as to pirtialitv sh *wn and exer
cised by our municipal authorities, between the
white and bUck races.
If this state of affairs are allowed to go much
further.it will soon very naturally come to tbe
point where a negro can not be arrested for any
misdemeanor, bat be allowed to stalk in migLty
majestic independecce, rough-shod, overall lawa
now existing for tne benefit and protection of our
city.
We shall mark the course par«u*Ahy the new
admiuistrati-n, and hope to see a change.
