CONSUMPTION-
Its Cure and its Preventive
* Bf J. H. SCHENCK, M. D.
TsfANYa ntnnan being has passed away, for
JjX whose (hath there was no other reason than
the neglect of known and proven means of cure.
Those near and dear to family and friends arp
sleeping the dreamless slumber into which, had
they calmly adopted
n f JOSEPH H. SCHENCE’S SIMPLE TREAT
MENT,
and availed themselves of this wonderful effica
cious medicines, they would not have fallen.
Dr. Scheuck has in his own case’ proved that
wherever sufficient vitality remains, that vitality,
by his medicines and his directions for their use,
is quickened into healthful vigor.
In this statement there is nothing presumptuous
To the faith of the invalid is made no representa
tion that is nit a thousand times Sustained by liv
in'* and visible works. The theory of the cure by
Dr*. Schenck’s medicines Ik As simple as it is un
failing- Its phylosoply requires no argument.—
It is seif-assuring, self-convincing.
The Seaweed Tonic and Mandrake Pills are the
first two weapons with which the citadel of the
malady is assailed. Two thml? of the cases of
consumption origipate in dispepsia and a function
ally disordered liver With this condition the
bronchial tubes ‘‘sympathize” with the stomach.
They respond to the morbific action of the liver.
Here then comes »be culminating result, and the
setting in, with all its distressing symptoms, of
CONSUMPTION.
The Mandrake Pill* are composed of one of Na
ture’s noblest gifts—the Podophtlium Peltatum
They possess all the blood-searching,-alterative
properties of-calomel, but unlike calomel, they
“LEAVE NO STING BEHIND.”
The work of cure isn >w begining. The vitiated
and" mucous deposits in the bowels and in the ali
mentary canal are ejected. The liver like a clock,
is wound up. It arouses from its torpidity. The
stomach acts responsively, and the patient begins
to feel that he is getting at last.
A SUPPLY OF GOOD BLOOD.
The Seaweed Tonic, in conjunction with the Pills
permeates and assimilates with the food. Chilifis
cation is now progressing without its previous tor
tures. Digestion becomes painless and the cure
is seen to bo at hand. There is no more flatulence
no exacerbation of the stomach. An appetic sets
in.
Now comes the greatest. Blood Purifier ever given
bv an indulgent father to suffering man Schenck’s
Pulmonic Syrup conies in to perform its functions
and to hasten and complete the cure. It enters at
once upon its w >rk. Nature cannot be cheated.
It collects and ripens the impaired and diseased
portions of the lungs. In the form of gatherings,
it prepaivs them for expectoration, and lo ! in a
very short time the malady is vanquished, the
rotten throne that it occupied is renovated and
made new, and the patient, in all the dignity of
regained vigor, steps forth to enjoy the manhood
or * email hood that was.
GIVEN UP A?, LOST.
The second thing is, the patients must stay in
a warm room until they get well; it is almost Im
possible <o prevent taking cold when the lungs
sre diseased, but it must be prevented or a cure
canuot be effected. Fresh air and riding out, es
prcially in this section ol the countiy in the fall
and winter season, are all wrong. Physicians who
recommend that course los** their patients, if their
lungs «re b»dly diseased, and yet, because they are
in the house, they must not sit down quiet; they
must wa;k about the io iri as much and as fast as
tho strength will bear, to get up a good circulation
of blood. '1 he patients must keep in good spirits
be determined to get well. This has a great deal
to do with the appetite, and is the great -point to
gain.
To despait of cure aftoi such evidence ol Us pos
sibility in the worst cases and moral ceitainty
in ail others, is sinful. Dr. Scheuck s personal
statement t«> the faculty of his own cure was in
these modest- words’
“Many years ago I was in the last stages of
consumption; confined to my bed. and at onetime
my phv-sietaus said I could not live a week ; then,
ike a diowning man catching at straws, L heard
,-f and obtained the pvepartionS ’»hicb I now of
er to the public, and they made a perfect cure of
me. It secured to me that I could feel them ;icu
rttrate my whole system, 'liny soon ripened the
matter in my lungs, and I would spit up more
ban a pint .-f offensive yellow matter every morn
ing for a long time.
“As soon as that began to subside my cough,
fevei, pain and night sweats all began to leave me,
and my appetite be-fttne so grea' that it was with
difficulty that I oould keep front eating too much.
I soon gained my strength, and have grown in
flesh ever since.”
‘I was weighed shortly after mr recovery,” ad
ded the Doctor, “then looking like a mere skele
.ton; my weight was only ninety-seven pounds ;
my present weight is two hundred tweucysOve
(225) pounds, and for years I have enjoyed unin
terrupted health ”

romeier declares the exact condition of the lungsi
trd patients can readily learn wheat her they are
curable or not.
The directions for taking the medicines are ad
apted to the intelligence even of a child Follow
ihese directions, and kind nature will do the rest
excepting that in some cases the Mandrake Bills
are to be taken in increased doses ; the three inedi
cius need no other accompaniments than the am
ple instructions that accompany them First create
appeeite Os returning health hunger is the most
welcome symtorn. When it come, as it will‘come,
let the desparrtig at once he of good cheer. Good
blood a, once follows, the cough loosens, the night,
weat is abated In a short time both of these mor
idd symptoms are gone forever.
Dr. Scher.cU’s medicines'are constantly kept in
tens of thousands of, families. Asa laxatisb or
pu-gative. the Mandrake Pills are a standard • re
paratinu ; while the Pulmonic Syrup, as a enrer of
coughs and colds, may he regarded as a prophy
lacteric against consumption in any of its forms.
