worth to which some of our esteemed co

The Sun Shines Hot.
The Colnmbus Sun having recently in an
editorial intimated that the .South would
not rally to the "old flag" to any alarming
extent in tb« case of a war between Great
Britain and the United Slates, so called,
one Adam S. Cochrane, box 2004, New
York, a3 he signs himself, encloses the edi«
torial with some original remarks of his
own to the Sun editor, one sentence of
which remarks is as fo’lows :
"Why your chivalry is all brag. You de
spised niggers (who are as good Americans
as yon are) would rally tp a man and leave
the wenches to tAke care of you."
To which the Sun makes answer after
this fashion :
We have no knowledge of Mr. Adam S*
Cochrane, box 2004, N. *Y. He may be a
man of straw or soma purse-proud fool
who, as he says, is interested to The ex
tent SIOO,OOO in Sonlhern railroads* 1 * We
welcome with no “bloody hands to hospita -
ble graves,“ that generous emigration, cap
ital and credit from abroad, which would
develop oor industry, taJeit and resources
of every kind, but Mr. Adam S. Cochrane,
box 2004 N' Y*, no donbt may be class 'd
with the vulgar blackguards, who would
steal in' war and swindle in peace, and
whose friendship for us and patriotism for
the North, never reaches above the bree
ches* pocket.
If the interest of Mr. Adam S Cochrane,
box 2004, N* Y. should ever call him to
the South, we hereby guess that even the
* wenches" would take care of him, and
put him away in his little bed,
1 The Labor Reform Candidates.
The Washington correspondent of the
Baltimore Gazette, in a letter to that paper
says :
"A prominent politician, admitted to be
one of the shrewdest and beet informed in
the country, and who has. been identified
with the Republican part; since its organ
ization, declares that if Judge Davis is
no mina tad by the united op
position (which this gentlemen believes
will occur), General Grant will get the
e'ectorial vote of no more than six States..
The geutlemen mentioned has conferred
freely with naarly every Democratic Senas

says he has jet to meet the first one who
opposes the nomination of Judge Davis.
He is of opinion, however, that Horace
Greely would be the strongest man in the

Astonishing Impudence.
There is no one thing.more nnblushingly
impudent, says the Detroit Free Press,
than the pretended love for the Constitution
which has-ali at once broken out among
the Grant leaders* Scarcely a prominent
measure in the whole policy of the Grant
Administration bufwhat is in most shame
less violation of the Constitution, and yet
the authors and supporter* of these infam
ous acts »ro just now pretending great
devotion to, and friendship for the Consti
tution. Thiuk of a man who supports the
Ku-Klux law, who endorses and defends
the recousruction acts, who justifies the
military invasion of a State in a time of
peace by the General Government for the
purpose of waging war upon the people,
to have a reverence for the Constitution of
the United Stales 1 Could anything bo
more boldlj impudent or oapre basely hyp

as a wholesale bakery. The fire origins*
ted in the western tenement, occupied by
Biker & Bro., and when first discove
red seemed 1o be very small, and apparent
ly very easily extinguished ;bnt the smoke
so dense and so suffocating, it was almost
impossible for the fireman to locate the
flames,' aud at the time of onr writing, it
looks as if the fire had communicated with
the other two tenements. Shortly after
arriving on the spot the Washington steam
fire engine collapsed, blowing oat tbe iuner
sheet of the fire, box, scalding Charles
O'Neal, President of the Russell Hose Com
pany, knocking down and tor a few mo
ments stunning that old veteran fireman,-
J&me-* A* Barron, the President of the
VV asbington Fire Company. Mr. Barron
seemed to snfier somewhat from the shock,
but otherwise, we are happy to say, is not
seriously hurt- Mr- o‘Neal's feet are sligh
tly scalded, and although painful, tire ioju
ry sustained -by him is not of aserioosna
ture. J. Kearney, First assistant Foreman
of the Washington, and Tom Moore, a
member of the same Company, were also
scalded on the feet and legs, bnt not
other<si*e injured.

clearly demonstrates from a thirty years succesfnl
practice, the alarming consequences of such errors
and abuses may be radically oared without the
dangerous vise of internal medicine orthp applica

at once simple, certain and effectual, by means
of which every sufferer, no matter what his con
