Page 6A - The Lee County Ledger, Thursday, July 5, 2001 From The Rible What the Bible Teaches The “Word” For The Week Y' \ By Frank Taylor By Dr. Dennis Prutow Christ and Your Problems by Dr. Dennis Prutow Some folks portray the Chris tian life as a bowl of cherries or bed of roses. “Come to Christ,” they say. “Your troubles will be over.” As a certain rental car ad vertisement retorts, “Not ex actly.” Someone forgot to pit the cherries. Someone else didn’t take the thorns off the roses. Becoming a Christian does not suddenly remove all your prob lems. In fact, conversion to Christ can intensify those difficulties. Not everyone appreciates the fol lowers of Jesus. Don’t let this deter you. Christ will teach you how to cope with your problems. Christ will support you in the midst of your troubles. He will personally comfort you. However, to experience this guidance and comfort in times of adversity, you must entrust your self to God. Jesus Christ sets the pace. No one ever walked on this earth and endured more pain and suffering than He did. The Bible relates His response. “While be ing reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righ teously” (1 Peter 2:23). In the midst of His suffering, Jesus Christ trusted His Father for com fort and strength to cope. This is what you need too. In the midst of your problems, turn to Christ. Entrust yourself to God. He is the “Father of mercies and the God of all comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:3).
