Wake up Lee County and know the truth, The owners contend that the road is only a "logging road", Take a few minutes and drive up to Burke's Ferry Rood, then make an informed decision for yourself, This road is better built, and in better condition, than many of the county maintained roads that we citizens live on, The owners of the land, through which Burke's Ferry Road meanders, are of the opinion that since they own all of the land surrounding the road, they should have the only access to it, Get real, Most of the roods in exist ence have to go through somebody's land! When driving down Burke's Ferry Road, the term "Green Space" comes to mind. Standing at the end of the road and gazing at the beau tiful Flint River flowing lazily down stream, a vision of a park appears, open to all Lee County citizens. Much has been made of the new park areas being constructed in various subdivisions in the southern part of Lee County, Think how nice it would be to have such an area in the northern part of the county, Imagine a picnic area, a boat ramp, maybe a gazebo and some park benches, What a beautiful, serene place it would be! Why should we, the Citizens of Lee County, be denied access to an area that could provide so much enjoyment for everyone; especially, by those who would come to our county and arbitrarily close an historic road that has existed for many, many years? Paid for by concerned Lee County citizens who opine that this has not been handled properly by the local government that refuses to restore this historic public road back to the citizens of Lee County, to whom it justly belongs. The Department of Juvenile Justice recognizes that today's at- risk youth exhibit multiple prob lems that produce many chal lenges. As a result, no one human service delivery agency can meet their many needs. Coordination and collaboration between agen cies must exist in order for chil dren to receive the maximum of services This is more easily ac complished if service delivery areas are congruent among agen cies. Knowing this, the Depart ment of Juvenile Justice has re organized its Community Correc tions Districts to Coincide with the service delivery regions uti lized by the Department of Hu man Resources. To ensure a viable span of su pervision and de-centralize ad ministrative functions, five re gions and twelve districts have been established. The purpose is to develop and facilitate multi agency planning and initiatives Albany’s OKmpbymat Rate Increases State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond said that the unemployment rate in the metro Albany area increased six-tenths percent in June to 5.7 percent, up from 5.1 percent in May. The area's jobless rate was 7.2 percent in June of 2000. The rate was up in June because some manufacturing and con struction workers were tempo rarily laid off and more people entered the job market. Georgia 's unemployment rate also increased six-tenths percent in June to 4.1 percent, matching its highest level in nearly a year. The rate was up from 3.5 percent in May. It was 4.4 percent in June of 2000. "The combination of layoffs and slowing job growth are hav ing an impact," Thurmond said. "We've experienced a net loss of 20,000 manufacturing jobs over the past year and many of those workers are in retraining or still trying to find replacement jobs. Added to that are 25,000 more people entering the job market. Many of the new job seekers are See Rate Page 7B that better serve the children and youth in their areas. Ms. Natilyne Young was re cently appointed Regional Ad ministrator for southwest and middle Georgia including the Macon, Albany, Columbus and Thomasville areas. She holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Soci ology and a Masters in Public Administration. Ms. Young has over 25 years experience with the agency including serving as Re gional Administrator where she supervised 10 detention centers. Ms. Young's duties will include providing administrative support to the three District Directors in her region. Mr. Clayton Mims has been named Director of District 10, which will cover Baker, Calhoun, Colquitt. Decatur, Dougherty, Early, Grady, Lee, Miller, Mitchell, Seminole. Terrell, Tho mas and Worth Counties. The lines of the District served by Mr. Mims remains largely un changed. He has worked for the Department of Juvenile Justice for almost 30 years. Through their leadership, the DJJ staff of District 10 will focus on better collaboration and ser vice delivery among child serv ing agencies.
