Leesburg Police Files Weekly Report
Leesburg Police Chief Charles
Moore reports that officers with
the Leesburg Police Department
worked cases during the past
week that involved public intoxi
cation, traffic violations, and vio
lation of probation.
Jack Alee Griffin, 66, of 128
Main Street, was charged with
public intoxication by Officer
David Bullington on August 6.
Officer Bullington made contact
with Griffin at his residence fol
lowing a complaint. Griffin was
intoxicated at that time and was
trying to get in his vehicle to
drive to the store. Griffin was
advised that he was too intoxi
cated to drive or walk to the
store.
Later Officer Bullington ob
served Griffin walking west from
Main Street attempting to cross
the railroad tracks. He was
placed under arrest for public in
toxication and transported to the
Lee County jail. A 12 hour hold
was placed on Griffin and he was
given a summons to appear in
municipal court on September
18.
Lawanda Ann Hall, 30, of 353
Clifford Avenue, Atlanta, was
charged with traffic violations on
August 5 by Captain Tim
Murphy. Hall was arrested for
stop sign violation and no license
on person. She did not have other
identification in her possession.
She stated that she could not re
member her driver’s license
number or social security num
ber. She was placed in the Lee
County jail and alter posted a
$140.00 cash bond.
Captain Monterey Moody
made a traffic stop with Lt.
Mathis of the Sheriff's Depart
ment assisting on August 4. A
check was made of Deandrea
Tyson’s license. The report on
Tyson, 34, showed her license
was suspended on December 23,
1998. Ms. Tyson was served for
suspended license and released
with a licensed driver driving the
vehicle.
McArthur Johnson, 37, of 124
C Kinchafoonee, Leesburg, was
charged with violation of proba
tion by Captain Moody on Au
gust 4.
Captain Moody obtained infor
mation from Sgt. Johnson of the
Lee County Sheriff’s Depart
ment that Johnson had an active
warrant for violation of proba
tion. Moody observed Johnson
on Highway 32 in a vehicle. He
was stopped and arrested. Lt.
Mathis of the sheriff’s depart
ment assisted with the case.
HeritageBank officially opened
its new office in Leesburg this
morning, a 2,200-square-foot fa
cility that offers a number of new
customer conveniences: three
drive-thrus. one with an A TM
machine; 60 safe-deposit boxes;
and a night-drop depository.
Located at 119 Robert B. Lee
Dr. and U.S. 19, the new office
replaces a mobile office that had
been on the site since August
1999, when HeritageBank first
came to Lee County.

bassadors cut the ribbon in pub
lic ceremonies Thursday morn
ing. Several local officials at
tended, along with HeritageBank
management.

Language Pathology And Audiology
18 Additional Flooded Homes
Approved For Buyout
The Lee County Board of Com
missioners agreed Monday night
to accept a grant application from
FEMA and GEMA for
$1,828,212 to purchase 18 houses
flooded in 1998. Lee County has
already been awarded grant
money to purchase 66 houses that
were flooded. In March 2000, the
Lee County commissioners au
thorized the staff to apply to
GEMA and FEMA for the pur
chase of an additional 37 flooded
homes. GEMA and FEMA have
now awarded the county the ad
ditional 1.8 million dollars to pur
chase 18 of those 37 homes. The
remaining homes are still being
reviewed by FEMA and an an
nouncement will be made later.
Under the approved grant plan,
FEMA will pay 75% of the cost
of the houses while GEMA will
pay 15%. The county will try to
find funding sources to help the
property owners with the remain
ing ten percent. The county could
contribute funds to make the new
grant equal to the previous grant

ogy in a ceremony today at the
State Capitol.
The State Board of Examiners
for Speech-Language Pathology
and Audiology safeguards the
public health by establishing stan
dards and setting guidelines of
professional conduct for speech
and hearing therapists.
The seven members sworn in

will be open to the public on
Monday, August 13,2001 at 9:00
am.
Due to continuing growth in

The Winn Dixie branch will
close its windows 1 pm on Sat
urday and will relocate to the
Ledo Rd. branch. Staffing at
Ledo Rd. will include two loan
officers, administrative assistant,
customer service representative,
branch manager, head teller and
three full-time tellers. The Lees
burg branch will be staffed with
one loan officer, assistant branch
manager, administrative assis
tant, head teller and two tellers.
