Understand that the landowners are not citizens of Lee County and reportedly use the land for timber production. It is the opinion of some Lee County citizens that it is merely recreational prop erty, with access to both Lake Blackshear and the Flint River. Friends and business associates of the owners are among the privileged few to enjoy some of the most beautiful scenery Lee County has to offer, If this acquisition of a public road from the citizens of Lee County is allowed to be upheld, there is noth ing to prevent other "high rollers" from purchasing large tracts of land in our very popular county and mimicking the actions of these non residents. Wake up Lee County and know the truth. The owners contend that the road is only a "logging road". Take a few minutes and drive up to Burke's Ferry Road, then make an informed decision for yourself. This road is better built, and in better condition, than many of the county maintained roads that we citizens live on. The owners of the land, through which Burke's Ferry Road meanders, are of the opinion that since they own all of the land surrounding the road, they should have the only access to it, Get real, Most of the roads in exist ence have to go through somebody's land! When driving down Burke's Ferry Road, the term "Green Space" comes to mind, Standing at the end of the road and gazing at the beau tiful Flint River flowing lazily down stream, a vision of a park appears, open to all Lee County citizens. Much has been made of the new park areas being constructed in various subdivisions in the southern part of Lee County, Think how nice it would be to have such an area in the northern part of the county, Imagine a picnic area, a boat ramp, maybe a gazebo and some park benches, What a beautiful, serene place it would be! Why should we, the Citizens of Lee County, be denied access to an area that could provide so much enjoyment for everyone; especially, by those who would come to our county and arbitrarily close an historic road that has existed for many, many years? Paid for by concerned Lee County citizens who opine that this has not been handled properly by the local government that refuses to restore this historic public road back to the citizens of Lee County, to whom it justly belongs.
