Red Cross Announces Blood Drives On September 11, 2001 the American people suffered a ter rible tragedy. Within 15 minutes people were already lined up at the South Georgia Community Blood Center to donate blood. As throughout the country, the people of South Georgia have been overwhelming in their re sponse to offer help. The Red Cross has seen large numbers of donors who patiently waited hours to donate blood and the agency stands committed to the effort of meeting this nation's blood needs. Red Cross President, Dr. Bernadine Healy has indicated that The White House wants the Red Cross to continue to provide Americans an opportunity to do nate blood. The agency must be prepared for the next emergency and ready to help victims like those affected by this most recent disaster- as well as those who may suffer from the tragedies of tomorrow, next week, next month and next year. Blood Drives will be conducted in the following locations: Thursday, October 4 at Westo- ver High School, 9am-lpm. Friday, October 5 at Monroe Comprehensive High School, 9am-l pm Without unforeseen disasters, the Red Cross needs 1300 pints of blood per day in this region to keep hospitals with blood for people needing surgery, for treat ment of cancer, leukemia or blood disorders, and for people who have emergencies. The American Red Cross appre ciates the community’s support and commitment to its mission in meeting the needs of all patients with the right blood product at the right time.
