The memorial service for Mrs. Hunter was at New Hope Baptist Church. Mrs. Hunter of Deltona, Florida, is survived by her daugh ter, Beckie Robins of Deltona, Florida; her sons, David Beaura of Herndo, Florida and Bobby Beaura of Deltona, Florida, two sisters, Margaret Demott of Lees burg, Georgia and Vera Walker of Tifton. Georgia; 14 grandchil dren. four great grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews. LILLIAN GILL GEORGE Lillian Gill George died October 2, 2001 in Leesburg, Georgia. She was born November 20, 1904 to parents descending from early Lee County pioneers. She spent her adult years in Albany. She is preceded in death by her late husband Clarence E. George, daughter Betty George Fordham, grandson Robert George Evans, great grand daughter Frances (Fran) Evans and son-in-law Raiford Evans. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 4 at Leesburg Cemetery with Rev. Thad Haygood officiating. She is survived by a daughter, Frances George Evans of Lee County, a son Clarence (Bud) George, Jr. and wife Mary of Columbia, South Carolina, a daughter Ann George Smith and George of Tampa, Florida and son-in-law Earnest Fordham, Sr. of Albany. BARRY VEMER SAARINEN, SR. Barry Vemer Saarinen, Sr., 58, of Albany died Tuesday September 25, 2001 of natural causes. Funeral service were held Friday at 2:00 PM at Kimbrell-Stem with interment in Crown Hill Cemetery. Dr. Ronald Baxley offici ated. A native of Brooklyn, NY, Mr. Saarinen had lived in Albany since 1962 and was a automobile mechanic. Survivors include two daughters, Marie Carter and Lynda Gutierrez of Leesburg; a son, Barry V. Saarinen, Jr. of Albany; a sister, Linda B. Saarinen of Tucker, GA; and three grandchildren. LCPS Students Celebrate Apple Week The Apples The week of September 24-28 was "Apple Week" in Jaimie Murdock's first grade class at Lee County Primary School. The stu dents sampled four types of apples and made a graph show ing which apple was liked the best. The Granny Smith apple was liked the best and the the Red Delicious apple was liked the least. In their weekly visit to the computer lab, students learned how to make a graph on the com puter. This concept of construct ing simple graphs is a quality core curriculum objective in math. Wednesday, September 26th was Johnny Appleseed's birthday so Mrs. Murdock's class cel ebrated by making and eating apple pancakes. She wrote the following poem after the tragic events of September 11, 2001. What Happened That Day By Mariah Spriggle What happened that day was a very bad thing. Because some unknown hijack ers took over our planes. They crashed into buildings; they were committed to die. Not caring about others; we all ask why? So many have died, so few were saved.
