What the Bible Teaches From Bridge Page 4A

Secret of the Lord
Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift
up my soul. O my God, I trust in
thee: let me not be ashamed, let
not mine enemies triumph over
me. Yea, let none that wait on
thee be ashamed: let them be
ashamed which transgress with
out cause. Shew me thy ways, O
LORD; teach me thy paths. Lead
me in thy truth, and teach me: for
thou art the God of my salvation;
on thee do I wait all the day. Re
member, O LORD, thy tender
mercies and thy loving-
kindnesses; for they have been
ever of old. Remember not the
sins of my youth, nor my trans
gressions: according to thy mercy
remember thou me for thy good
ness' sake. O LORD.
Good and upright is the LORD:
therefore will he teach sinners in
the way. The meek will he guide
in judgment: and the meek will
he teach his way. All the paths of
the LORD are mercy and truth
unto such as keep his covenant
and his testimonies. For thy
name's sake, O LORD, pardon
mine iniquity; for it is great.
What man is he that feareth the
LORD? him shall he teach in the
way that he shall choose. His soul
shall dwell at ease; and his seed
shall inherit the earth. The secret
of the LORD is with them that
fear him; and he will shew them
his covenant.
Mine eyes are ever toward the
LORD; for he shall pluck my feet
out of the net. Turn thee unto me,
and have mercy upon me; for I
am desolate and afflicted. The

troubles of my heart are enlarged:
O bring thou me out of my dis
tresses. Look upon mine afflic
tion and my pain; and forgive all
my sins. Consider mine enemies;
for they are many; and they hate
me with cruel hatred. O keep my
soul, and deliver me: let me not
be ashamed; for I put my trust in
thee. Let integrity and upright
ness preserve me; for I wait on
thee.
I have hated the congregation
of evil doers; and will not sit with
the wicked. I will wash mine
hands in innocency: so will I
compass thine altar, O LORD:
That I may publish with the voice
of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy
wondrous works.

God's Angels. Our Stumbling
When you stub your toes, you
jump and howl. You do it at the
most inopportune times too, like
heading to the bathroom in the
middle of the night. You don't
remember moving that chair.
Ouch!
The Bible likens Christ to a
stone. “For this is contained in
Scripture: ‘Behold. I lay in Zion
a choice stone, a precious corner
stone and he who believes in Him
will not be disappointed''’ (1 Pe
ter 2:7).
People can stub their toes and
stumble over stones intended for
building.
“The stone which the builders
rejected, this became the very
corner stone,” and, “A stone of
stumbling and a rock of offense”
(1 Peter 2:7).

Nugget of Truth
The soul united to Christ cannot
be completely at rest til it arrives
at the heavenly home.
Bible Lesson
What causes the death of a
church? The truth about this is
frightening to consider, but every
Christian needs to know it. A
church is in danger of death when
it begins to worship its own past,
when it is more concerned with
forms than with life, when it loves
systems more than it loves Jesus
Christ, and when it is more con
cerned with material things than
spiritual. First, let’s rule out those
things that we know will cause the
church to grow and become strong.
These things are: 1. Death being
caused from an outside enemy.
History shows it is almost impos
sible to kill the church externally.
2. Death being caused by suicide.
Churches do not consciously break
with Christ. 3. Death being caused
Christ? Peter explains. “They
stumble because they are disobe
dient to the word” (1 Peter 2:7).
We stumble over Christ and stub
our toes on Him. to our own eter
nal hurt, when we disobey Him.
God wonderfully compensates
for our weakness and bumbling.
Psalm 91:11-12 promises, “For
He will give His angels charge
concerning you, to guard you in
all your ways. They will bear you
up in their hands, that you do not
strike your foot against a stone,”
These angels are “ministering
spirits, sent out to render service
for the sake of those who will in
herit salvation” (Hebrews 1:14).
They keep heirs of salvation from
stumbling over Christ.

death of a
church
will take
place
through the death of its individual
members. A church is like a hu
man body and its individual cells,
its overall health, is only as good
as the health of each cell. A church
is nothing except the composite
assembly of its individual mem
bers. When the members of a
church die, the church ultimately
dies.
The death of a church comes
from relying on its past reputation.
The church can only live on its lau
rels for so long before death sets
in. Vance Havner used to say that
spiritual movements go through
four stages: a man, a movement, a
machine, and a monument. It’s ap
parent the church today has be
come a monument; anything that
has happened spiritually happened
in the past. The church has died the
same way many great athletic
teams become losers, from over
confidence and a lack of vigilance.
The death of the church comes
because it is not sensitive to its own
spiritual condition. Most churches
are not even conscious of their own
death. They are still going through
the motions. They have lulled
themselves to sleep over the years
and don’t even realize they have
died. They are like Samson in the
Old Testament who “did not know
that the Lord had departed from
him" (Judges 16:20.
Christians don't lose their salva
tion, but their lives can so grieve
the Holy Spirit that there is no life,
no vibrancy in their lives. And
when most of the people in a
church do that, then there is no life
in the church. They have become
dead to the things of the Lord.
Every Christian should look at his
own life as a barometer of the life
of his church. As the members go,
so eventually will go the church.
when there were so many
people from so many countries
working there? Which country
would target these buildings for
destruction? To what purpose is
this serving?
When I heard how many people
were dead or possibly dead my
first thought came clear, like a
bright light, comforting me and I
felt the amazing grace of God fill
my heart and soul.
I pictured what heaven must
have looked like during those
moments of terrorism here on
earth. Huge, magnificent, majes
tic. golden gates swung wide
open. A multitude of angels gath
ering nearby, shining brightly,
welcoming the sweet spirits from
earth with open arms, while sing
ing, “Alleluia: Salvation, Glory
and Honor you are in the presence
of our Lord God”.
I could hear the sound of the
trumpets and feel the vibrations
of the sound, ringing loud, clear
as a bell. A holy sound, like no
sound ever heard on earth.
In my minds eye I saw my
daughter, Ashley; my mother,
Vivian; my friend, Marianne; and
my PaPa, Walter waiting, wel
coming the angels into heaven.
They were surrounded by thou
sands of other angelic bodies that
looked triumphant, ecstatic and
serene.
I then imagined that the gates
of hell were open and the cow
ards that did this horrific act slith
ered on their bellies to bum for
eternity and were surrounded by
a darkness that was undefinable.
I am but one person that has
been affected by this brutal deed.
Thousands have unstaunched
wounds that will only begin to
heal with time.
While we seek requital, this will
not bring back the peace we once
felt about living in the United
States and will not return our
loved ones to us. It will in fact
cause more casualties and deso
lation throughout the world.
It is by God’s amazing grace
that our world has taken this ter
rible tragedy and pledged to take
a stand to be united, once again.
Wherever American people
gather, whether it be Presidents,
generals, admirals, the rich, poor,
white, black, sick, healthy, male,
female, no matter what religion;
we will be together fighting for
justice, equality, faith, hope, char
ity, truth, and brotherly love.
We will proudly display the
American flag: our nations sym
bol of life, liberty and the pursuit
of happiness.
Whether it be draped on the cas
kets of our heroes, at the White
House, churches, cathedrals, post
offices, homes, shopping malls,
cars, shirts, blouses, gardens,
bars, prisons or mansions, we will
pledge allegiance to the flag .
“Old Glory” and the United
States of America.
I think that our nation has not
heard the last from these terror
ists, but if they thought that this
dastardly act would separate the
United States, they were dead
wrong.
In deed, they enabled the people
in America to put the “US” back
in the United States of America.
