Page 6A - The Lee County Ledger, Thursday, October 18,2001 Jj 1 P^StOI*^S HCSft What the Bible Teaches By Frank Taylor Bible Lesson The Old Testament is filled with pictures that illuminate the Scrip tures. Many of the pictures are called “Types”. One picture in the Old Testament that is a Type of the Lord Jesus is the picture of Joseph in the Book of Genesis. In Genesis 45:26, The Bible says, “Joseph is yet alive”. Joseph’s brethren were true wit nesses. They had seen Joseph and conversed with him. Now they hasten home to tell their father Jacob the good news, “Joseph is alive”! What a message and what rejoicing, “It is enough,” cried fa ther Jacob. He was satisfied in the assurance he would see his son Joseph again. O what wonderful news. Our matchless Lord and Savior has been raised from the dead. He finished the work he came to do. He has satisfied the heart of the Father. In His prayer in John 17 He said, “I have glorified Thee on the earth. I have finished the work which Thou gavest me to do.” God raised Him from the dead. Yes, “The Lord is risen indeed,” there is triumph and great joy in these words of those two on the Emmaus Road to those early dis ciples. There was a song in their heart and on their lips as they pro claimed the glad message - Jesus and the Resurrection. What does it mean to us today? Peace to the trusting heart in Romans 15:13, “All joy and peace in believing” - peace to troubled souls - “My peace I give unto you, Let not your heart be troubled” John 14:27 and peace to the tried and tested - John 20:26 “Then came Jesus, the doors being shut and stood in the midst and said “Peace be unto you.” We too can capture and be cap tivated by the resurrection of Christ. We need not go to Jerusa lem to see the actual tomb: nor hear the invitation of this heav enly visitor “Come see the place where the Lord lay” No! We can live the resurrection life in the power of The Holy Spirit. We know He is alive! The Word de clares it. Our own heart tells us it is so. It is not rea son. It is faith. iBlessed are they that have not seen, and yet have be lieved. John 20:29 Yes! He is not here.” Not in the tomb. Not on earth but in Heaven; loving, caring for His own and awaiting the glad moment when He shall come for His own according to His true and precious promise “I will come again.” John 14:3 Since our Lord’s death and res urrection, He has acquired to Himself a new and sevenfold glory, in honor and exaltation. Hear the angels, the living crea tures and elders gathered around the throne acclaiming Him “say ing with a loud voice, worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honor, and glory, and blessing.” Revelation 5:12 Again and again the Psalms proclaim, “The Lord reigneth” Our glorious Lord is on the Throne. O wondrous thought. He is there for us in the purity of His manhood our great High Priest our advocate with the Fa ther. And wonder of wonders He is with the 2’s and 3’s on the earth assembling together in His Name to receive the praise and worship accorded to Him. Then to hear Him say to us, “I am come into the Garden, My sister. My spouse I have I have gathered My myrrh with my spice - eat, O friends, drink, yea drink abundantly, - beloved.” Song of Solomon 5:1 One of the most unique, soul ful voices in contemporary Chris tian music has gone solo and will be at Leesburg First Baptist this Sunday. Middleton will be at both the 9:30 and 11:00 worship services (1 Corinthians 15:1-2 KJV) "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; {2} By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain." The Apostle Paul wrote to the church in Corinth about the glo rious gospel of Jesus Christ. He wanted to encourage them to con tinue in the faith, not giving ground to false doctrines and idol worship that was so prevalent at that time, Paul knew the power of the message he preached, con fident it was able to change lives of whoever accepted the one the message was about - the glorious person. Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God. Let's look at the scripture more closely. When Paul spoke of preaching to the people of Corinth, he meant he was an evangelist, one who announced good news - the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The good news is that there is a remedy for sin. People no longer have to be bound by sin, there is a cure which is accepting the salvation offered by Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Sin no longer has a stranglehold on those who accept the free pardon of sin offered by God through the shed blood of Jesus. What good news! You and I no longer have the fear of death and eternal damnation over heads, if we are saved through Christ's powerful blood, forgiven by His amazing grace. Paul also wrote that the broth ers had received the glorious gos pel message. To receive in the sense Paul wrote about is to as sociate with oneself (in any famil iar or intimate act or relation). In other words, when a person re ceives the message of the gospel this Sunday, October 21st. Middleton once appeared with groups like the Four Tops. Four. Seasons, Three Dog Night and Tina Turner. For 13 years Eddie has been with the group NewSong. Eddie Middleton To Be At Leesburg First Baptist Ronald E. Parish of Jesus Christ, that person gets close to it. We need to be thank ful for our Christian heritage and not be ashamed of it. If Christ is your savior, then let the whole world know about it. Too often people are ashamed of their rela tionship with Christ, but that should never happen. Lastly, Paul wrote to the believ ers in Corinth and encouraged them to stand. In the face of all the tragedy we have seen and heard of over the last month, it is important we stand firmly on our convictions and purpose, Jesus is going to carry the saved home one day, no one knows the day or the hour, but I believe it will happen soon. The most important ques tion anyone can answer is the one that addresses our readiness to meet God. Are you saved? Are you born again as the Bible says? If not, why not ask Jesus into your hearts today. He is patiently wait ing for you, give Him a try. PARISH, Pastor East Albany Church of God From The Bible By Jerry Kingery Joy cometh Give unto the LORD, O ye mighty, give unto the LORD glory and strength. Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; wor ship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the LORD is upon many waters. The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty. The voice of the LORD breaketh the cedars; yea, the LORD breaketh the cedars of Lebanon. He maketh them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn. The voice of the LORD divideth the flames of fire. The voice of the LORD shaketh the wilderness; the LORD shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh. The voice of the LORD maketh the hinds to calve, and discovered! the forests: and in his temple doth ev ery one speak of his glory. The LORD sitteth upon the flood; yea, the LORD sitteth King for ever. The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace. I will extol thee, 0 LORD; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me. O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me. O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. For his anger endureth but a mo ment; in his favour is life: weep ing may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved. Hear, 0 LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be thou my helper. Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness; To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever. from Psalms 29 and 30 For a free Scripture packet, please write From the Bible, BIBLE FOUNDATION, PO Box 908, Newberg, Oregon 97132. email: bf@bf.org The “Word” For The Week By Dr. Dennis Prutow Grace Alone, Faith Alone The great principle of the Prot estant Reformation is salvation by grace alone through faith alone. This principle comes through loud and clear in Isaiah 1:27 in the Old Testament of the Bible. “Zion will be redeemed with justice, and her repentant ones with righteous ness” (Isaiah 1:27). In the Old Testament Zion is a picture of the New Testament church. Hebrews 12:22-23 teaches us this. When someone redeems a slave, they pay a price for that ser vant. Justice refers to the just pay ment for evil. Justice demands recompense be made for evil acts. Righteousness refers to the requirement for heaven. Leviticus 18:5 says, “So you shall keep My statutes and My judgments, by which a man may live if he does them; I am the Lord.” To live is to have eternal life. The requirement for eternal life in heaven is perfection. But no one is perfect except One, Jesus Christ. Since Jesus Christ died to pay for the sins of those who believe in Him, justice is served. Since Jesus Christ also lived a perfect life on behalf of those who believe in Him, the requirement of righteous ness is met. Through Jesus Christ God can “be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus” (Romans 3:26). This is God's grace received through faith. We celebrate this Reformation prin ciple on October 31.
