November 12,13,14, and 15,2001 Lee County High School will administer a retest for Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Stud ies, and Science portions of the Georgia High School Graduation Test on November 12,13.14. and 15. The following categories of stu dents should be tested: 1. Individuals who have left high school with a Certificate of Performance or a Special Educa tion diploma. 3. Students who dropped out of school without having met all graduation assessment require ments applicable to them at the time, and have returned without having been enrolled in any Geor gia public school for one aca demic year or more. These stu dents will meet the assessment requirements for the current class in which they will enroll. All students who entered ninth grade since July 1, 1991, must pass all areas of the Georgia High School Graduation Tests as one requirement for receiving the high school diploma. This road has been abandoned by the county for almost 40 years. This is known by the people who live in the area. Anyone that is concerned about the treatment of Lee County citizens and taxpayers in this situation should contact their commissioner and voice their opin ion. What is happening to the landowner in this situation can and may happen to you!!! Wake up Lee County and know the truth. Awards are presented annually on the lo cal, state, and national levels. The competition slogan for this year is: Everyday kids, amazing ideas! The LCHS nominees are Mallory Grebel and Laura Ruckel. They will enter state competition the end of October. From these win ners. the top high school and middle school students will be named in February. Finally, ten of the state honorees will be named America's top ten youth volun teers of the year at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. in May. Mallory is the daughter of Coni and Rick Grebel of Leesburg, and the granddaughter of Mary and Dick Grebel of Albany, and Ruth Coley and the late John Coley of Cochran. In addition to student government activities, Mallory is the captain and choreographer for the Trojan Band Danceline. She is on the varsity swim team, has qualified for state for three years, and has lettered in swimming for the past three years. As a fresh man, she placed 9th and 11th at the State Swimming Finals; as a junior she placed 5th, 7th, and 9th place. She is a staff reporter for both the LCHS Panoptic and Lit erary Magazine. She has been a student representative on the Re naissance Committee, the Char acter Education Committee, and the Junior-Senior Prom Commit tee. Her community activities in clude volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and "Souper Bowl" Soup Kitchen, emceeing beauty pageants, reading to first graders, and conducting a water safety course for boy scouts. She has also participated in marathons for Cystic Fibrosis, Cancer Aware ness. and Children's Miracle Net work. She is a member of First United Methodist Church of Al bany where she is a senior repre sentative on the Youth Council and sings in the Hosanna Youth Choir. The choir has performed in Niagara Falls, Boston, and Texas and hopes to tour Europe this summer. Presently, Mallory is coordinating a food drive with "Pink Ladies." a group of Darton students, working with a class mate to collect suitcases for fos ter children and battered women, and coordinating "Hunters for the Hungry," a service project of Fel lowship of Christian Athletes Clubs from five area high schools. Laura is the daughter of Elaine and Steve Ruckel of Leesburg. Her grandparents are Dora and Clyde Ruckel of New Castle. In diana. Laura is active in the Na tional Forensics League, the His tory Club, the Palladium Players, the Drama Club and the Interna tional Thespian Society. She has played varsity soccer and was a Governor's Honors Program par ticipant. She won the Yale Book Award, the University of Roch ester Humanities Award, and the Junior Miss Preliminary Scholas tic Scholarship. Laura has been in many LCHS drama produc tions including Vanities and The Sound of Music. Her community activities include church, teach ing children's theatre workshops, working blood drives, visiting the nursing home, and reading to stu dents at the primary school. We wish these young ladies the best in their continuing competition!
