LCPS Teacher of the Year Teaching is more than high test scores; it is also enriching lives. A heart of compassion and belief can be the very thing that causes a student to "make it." Quality schools are the result of quality teachers going above and beyond the call of duty. These three state ments describe those teachers chosen as teachers of the year in their respective teaching assign ments by their colleagues. The Warriors put 5 more runs on the board in the bottom of the 6th, which included a perfect suicide squeeze bunt by Gamble. Al though trailing 13- 7, TDS did not go quietly in the top of the 7th in ning. After scraping three runs off pitcher T. Hoffman, Brandon Fowler came in relief with one out and the tying run at the plate. Fowler struck out the next TDS batter for out number 2. Fowler then forced a rundown after a pickoff move to get the third out and preserve the victory for the Warriors, 13-10. CHAMPIONSHIP GAME The Warriors advanced to the championship game on Sunday af ternoon in a virtual replay of Saturday's game with Thomasville. This game showed just how exciting tournament baseball can be. Thomasville got on the board first with one ran in the first inning off starter Cam Ellis. The Warriors tied the game in the top of the 2nd. After draw ing a base on balls, Jeffrey Burdette scored on Corey Nichols single to left center. T'ville broke the tie in the bottom of the 3rd getting two runs across to make the score 3-1 and extended the lead to 4-1 with another run in the bottom of the 4th inning. The Warriors struggled back in the top of the 5th inning. With one out, Brandon Fowler reached on an error by the T'ville third baseman. After stealing 2nd, Fowler advanced to 3rd on Tim From Page 2B McCrary's ground out. Terrell Hoffman singled. Zack Slaughter then singled in Fowler. Alan MacDonald brought in Hoffman and Slaughter with a single to left field to tie the game at 4-4. The Warriors took the lead 5-4 in the top of the 6th on singles by Fowler, McCrary and T. Hoffman. Thomasville wasn't to be outdone. With two outs, T'ville got a man on with a walk. As the T'ville base runner attempted to steal second to get into scoring position, the throw to second was high and wide and went into center field allowing him to come all the way around and score to tie the game at 5-5. Neither team could get a run across in the 7th inning so the game headed into extra innings. McCrary reached first on a base on balls in the top of the 8th in ning with two outs but was left on base. After a lead off walk and an infield error, T'ville had runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. T'ville tried to get things going with a hit and run play. The T'ville batter hit a hard shot to third baseman Josh Oliver who scooped it up, stepped on third and threw across the in field to Ellis to get the runner at first for a 6-3 double play. Thomasville's Tyler Newberry, the tournament MVP, ended the game with a hard single right back through the middle to score the runner from second base. Final score: T'ville 6, Warriors 5. Tournament Notes: Jeffrey Burdette won 3 games with a 1.75 ERA. Cam Ellis recorded 14 K's in 9 innings pitched.
