Special To The Ledger From Lee County Chamber of Commerce The Lee County Chamber of Commerce has designated Ad- Scope Designs, P.O. Box 383003 Birmingham, AL 35242 and tele phone number 205-408-1963, to update and publish a full-color, commercial grad map for distri bution to new residents, busi nesses and visitors. The new map will also contain needed updated street information. The detailed map of the county, and the cities of Smithville and Leesburg, will include land marks, points of interest, and a street index. Ad-Scope Designs will print 5,000 copies of the maps. Once they are available, the Chamber and those busi nesses advertising on the maps will distribute them. The maps are included along with other sta tistics and promotional material that are furnished to newcomers and prospective businesses. Beginning November 19,2001, Mr. Keith Barker with Ad-Scope Designs, will begin visiting busi nesses to receive orders for the The Leesburg City Council honored one of their own last Friday with the dedication of a road in memory of Jesse Henderson. A long time councilman, Jesse (J.C) Henderson recently passed away. In memory and in honor of his service to the citizens of Leesburg, Carter Street was renamed to Jesse Henderson Road. Mrs. Henderson (on the ladder) had the privilege of placing the new street sign on the post. Pictured (left to right) are Councilman Sidney Johnson, Mayor Bob Boney, Councilwoman Deborah Long, Councilman Morris Leverett and Mr. Henderson’s daughter, Ann Range. Smith Rejoins Smithville Police Force James Smith who recently served as chief of the Smithville Police Department, has rejoined the department as an officer. Smith was one of the first of ficers employed by the City of Smithville when the city reestab lished the police department. In an effort to curb expenditures sev eral years ago, the city council disbanded the police department leaving the city unprotected ex cept for sheriff deputies on rou tine patrol in the north end of the county. Smith resigned from his posi tion following allegations about inappropriate use of computers and phone lines in the police de partment. Skylar Martin (right), Sertoma International Vice President, was the guest speaker at a recent Lee County Sertoma Club meeting held at Grand Island. He is accompanied by Bil Sadler who is President- Elect for the Lee County Sertoma Club. James Smith Leesburg Police Department Issues Weekly Report Chief Charles Moore released the following incidents. On November 15, a complainant reported a theft by taking on Starksville Street. The incident occurred between November 9 and November 12. Taken was a Pitney Bowes weighing scale. The case is still under investigation. On November 14, Captain Moody was informed of a warrant on a male suspect. The officer arrested the subject for probation violation at a Fourth Street address and turned him over to a Lee County Deputy. On November 14, an officer responded to a call on Old Smith ville Road regarding damaged property. The owner indicated that his chain link fence had been damaged. advertisements.
