Even many people who say they are Christians don’t believe in the re ality of Satan. But he is alive and well on planet earth, destroying the work of Jesus Christ when ever he can. Scripture plainly teaches this. In Ephesians 6:12 we are warned that we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers and rulers of darkness and spiritual wickedness in high places. That is a presentation of the domain of Satan. He leads the forces of evil in this world, a great army of fallen angels that, accord ing to Ephesians 6:12 are well or ganized into a hierarchy. “Prin cipalities” in the Greek language means, “head officers.” “Pow ers” has to do with “staff offic ers.” “Rulers” are “divisional commanders,” and the rank and file are “spiritual hosts of wick edness.” As Christians, we have lost the sense that we are at war with pow erful spiritual forces and that is why we are so often defeated. It's not that Christians don’t want to win. They don’t even know they are at war! The Word of God in Ephesians 6 tells us that this war fare is one for which we may pre pare. We can walk into a hostile environment and do warfare for God and not be defeated. Our Commander-in-Chief has already won the war, and He is waiting for us to get in on the victory. But you can’t win unless you are armed. That is why Paul told the Ephesians, “Take up the whole ar mor of God.” Note that Paul didn’t tell us that God would be stow this armor on us. He told us to arm ourselves. It is your re sponsibility to appropriate the ar mor of God, and He gives us de tails about how to put it on. It is your job to do that. If you are shot at and defeated because you didn’t put the armor in place, it is not God’s fault. His armor is sit ting there, waiting for you to put on. It is your personal and pri mary duty to put on the armor of God, which will protect you from what the enemy wants to do to you. Each piece of armor deals spe cifically with an area of your life that is a target of Satanic strategy. For example, the girdle of truth is the knowledge, accep tance, and use of truth. It con sists of the great truths of God and His relationship to us through Christ. It includes a complete un derstanding about what God has said concerning Himself, His Son, mankind, and history. The girdle of truth is the knowledge of God, which resides in His Word. To put on the girdle of truth you must know His Word. One of the ploys of Satan is to have cults feed off of ignorant Christian churches. Churches that don’t know Biblical doctrine are unprotected from the seduc tion of strange teachings because they donft have on the armor of God. Christian, take advantage of ev ery opportunity to learn more about God and His Word so that you can be armed against the en emy who is out to destroy you. Put on the girdle of truth. Darts are aimed at your chest, and you need the protection of a breast plate. Satan is aiming to hurt you by attacking the sin in your life, and the breastplate of righteous ness is the only thing that can pro tect you. Your shield of faith pro tects you from the direct assault of the enemy. The helmet of sal vation protects your mind from false teachings. The sword of the Spirit provides the offensive weapon to be used against Satan. No soldier is complete without the weapon of prayer where we submit to God and resist the devil he will flee from us. The best news of all is that we are guaran teed to win, because Christ de feated the enemy on the cross. Would a mother wor thy of the name put a newborn baby in an animal’s feedbox? This is the depth to which the Son of God was willing to stoop in order to bring about salvation. The Son of God. the Second Person of the Trinity, left the side of His Father to lay in a manger. He left behind the perfection, sinless purity, and glorious light of heaven. He entered a world marked by war, fallen in sin. and dark with the sting of death. He “emptied Himself [of His divine prerogatives], taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men” (Philippians 2:7). He entered the world with little notice. Bethlehem was teeming with people seeking to register for a census ordered by the Roman emperor. Mary and Joseph found shelter in a stable. “And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn” (Luke 2:7). An angel explained Mary’s pregnancy to Joseph and gave the baby His name. “She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21). So it was that Jesus Christ stooped to meet our need. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD. Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies. Many. O LORD my God, are thy wonder ful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us- ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would de clare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered. Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required. Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me, I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart. I have preached righ teousness in the great congrega tion: lo, I have not refrained my By Jerry Kingery lips, O LORD, thou knowest. I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation. Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O LORD: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me. For in numerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: there fore my heart faileth me. Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me: O LORD, make haste to help me. Let all those that seek thee re joice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continu ally, The LORD be magnified. But I am poor and needy; yet the Lord thinketh upon me: thou art my help and my deliverer; make no tarrying, O my God. from Psalm 40 For a free Scripture packet, please write From the Bible, BIBLE FOUNDATION, PO Box 908, Newberg, Oregon 97132. email: bf@bf.org Attend The House of Worship of Your Choice This Sunday "inuntu nhurrh nf Christ Kinchafoonee Rantist Leesbura Church of God Leesburg First Bapti Lee County Church Of Christ Maurice Johnson, Jr. Minister Bible Study 9:30 AM Worship 10:30 AM Evening Worship 6:00 PM Mid-Week Bible Study 7:30 PM Smithville Baptist Lance Fendley, Pastor Sunday School 10:00 AM Morning Worship.... 11:00 AM Evening Worship 7:00 PM Wed.
