Letters, From Page 4A
ing fired the previous two clerks
without any reason or explana
tion. Has anyone asked why? Do
the County Commissioners care?
Give the two previous clerks a
call and maybe you will get an
answer. Why do the County Com
missioner' s keep a person as Ad
ministrator who cannot and will
not work in a constructive man
ner with other department heads
and especially elected officials?
One way Randy has been able
to keep some loyalty within his
own ranks is to give raises to
those in his immediate circle of
influence. For example, he re
cently gave raises in the range of
10% to 15% to two of his "per
sonal" assistants, while other
employees were given the "stan
dard" 3% raises. From what I can
learn, neither of these two women
deserved special recognition. Did
you try to buy loyalty, Randy?
Just last week he tried to give
raises to some others in his "im
mediate circle", but it didn't work.
Some of the elected officials
called Chairman Billy Mathis and
asked questions as to the timing
of these planned raises. Thank
goodness, Mathis stopped the
raises at the last moment and
placed everything on hold until a
proper public meeting could be
held. Commissioner Harris re
cently asked the question, "Why
is morale low with the Lee
County employees?" The answer
Mr . Harris is simple, Randy
Dowling. Let me ask one ques
tion. Randy, while in school, did
you ever take any courses in pub
lic relations and/or employee re
lations? Guess not. We need a
new Administrator in Lee County.
Most of the people who are fa
miliar with this county can name
one or two people who would be
ready, willing and able to make
our county a better place to work.
Our Commissioners know we
have talent within our midst who
would do a much better job than
Dowling. Randy, to be an effec
tive administrator, you must re
spect the citizens of this county
and the officials of each depart
ment they have elected. I have
spent my entire life in the private
sector and I can assure you, the
type of antics of Randy Dowling
would not be tolerated in the "real
world". As Chairman Mathis has
recently stated in the public arena,
"I want Lee County not only to
be a good place to live, but a good
place in which to work." Well,
Mr. Chairman, if you are serious,
you need to get a new County
Administrator before your wish,
and the wish of most county em
ployees, will come true. As a law
yer, Mr. Chairman, you know the
old saying, "Time is of the Es
sence."
