Lee County Primary kindergar- ten students recently returned from a “world-wide tour” by way of their travels to observe Christ mas Around the World. Their travels took them to Holland, Mexico, Japan, Africa, and En gland. This activity addressed several of the Kindergarten Qual ity Core Curriculum objectives. For example, students learned where the different countries were located in relation to the United States and different modes of transportation as they decided how they could travel to each des tination. This activity also helps students recognize that different cultures have different customs, traditions and characteristics as students were exposed to the dif ferent modes of dress, the lan guage of the different cultures, Christmas customs like the cel ebration of Kwanza. WE WISH YOU THE HAPPIEST OF HOLIDAY were packed with items they would need on their trips and passports were stamped at each port of entry. The customs and traditions of each culture were ex perienced through discovery and active learning activities. LCPS Teacher Feature Cathy Smith teaches Special Education at Lee County Primary School. She has 30 years of teach ing experience, all of which has been in Lee County. Mrs. Smith has a Masters De gree in Special Education from Valdosta State University. Cathy Smith and her husband, Jerry, are the parents of two chil dren, Katrina, 23. and Truitt. 19. Mrs. Smith has lived in Lee County all of her life. Her hob bies are painting and gardening. Cathy Smith is retiring this year from teaching. from your “friends Homerun Foods Lanier Oil Company Pioneer Days at Twin Oaks proved to be a fun day of learning for everyone.
