BROAD ALBANY 435-6116 LCHS seniors Kristen Goodin, Jonathan Haefs, and Amber Morey are the Exchange Club Students of the Month for December. National Exchange Club Youths of the Month Farmers Students selected to represent Lee County High School as the National Exchange Club Youths of the Month for December are Kristen Goodin, Jonathan Haefs, and Amber Morey. Students who rank in the top of the senior class are being se lected each month from September - March. In the spring, an Exchange Club com mittee will review student applications, and students will be chosen to enter the Youth of the Year na tional competition. The Northwest Ex change Club of Al bany sponsors the lo cal competition. To be eligible, students are scored on their participation and leadership roles in student government/ class government, newspaper/annual school publications, musical organiza tions, debate activi ties, stage produc tions, athletic teams, and club member ships. They are also rated according to commu nity organization memberships and volunteer service hours, grade point av erages, and special achievements or awards. In final com petition, students will be required to write an essay to be scored by a team of national judges. Kristen is the daughter of Cathy and Tim Goodin of Leesburg. She has played varsity softball for three years, is on the American Red Cross Youth Board, and is a statistician for the LCHS football team. She has been to Cancun, Mexico on a mission trip and volunteers through her church for other com munity service. Kristen's achievements and awards include being a Georgia Merit Scholar, winning the Academic Award for varsity softball in 1999, 2000, and 2001, and being named Who's Who Among High School Students in 1999, 2000, and 2001. Her interests outside of school include play ing softball and hanging out with friends. Kristen is planning to attend the University of Georgia after high school graduation and go into some type of a medical field. Jonathan is the son of Teri and Tony Haefs of Leesburg. His grandparents are Ish and Edith Henry and Richard and Josephine Haefs. Jonathan has been active in Students for Christ, Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Renaissance, and Forensics. He has participated in LCHS track and field, bas ketball, musicals, mock trial, and Common Ground. Other interests include music and the arts, sports, church, composing music, reading, writ ing, public speaking, and the ministry. He has vis ited nursing homes to sing Christmas carols, raised money to donate Christmas trees to needy fami lies, volunteered for yard cleaning projects for the elderly in the community, and helped with a cam paign phone bank during state elections. Jonathan's personal achievements and awards in clude receiving the Georgia Certificate of Merit, being nominated for the National Youth Leader ship Forum on Law, Who's Who Among America's High School Students, and the National Honor Roll. Jonathan had the highest GPA of 11th grade male students, won three Best Attorney awards at the Regional Mock Trial Competition as well as one Best Attorney award at the state Mock Trial Competition. He has won the Outstanding Speaker award at debate tournaments, and the Christian Leadership Award for 10th grade boys' B-team bas ketball. Jonathan plans to attend Darton College before transferring to Liberty University where he will prepare to become an evangelist. Amber is the granddaughter of Rachael and Jerry Jolly of Leesburg. She is active in Future Home makers of America (FHA) and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). In these organiza tions, she has raised funds for the needy, collected food in Hunters for the Hungry, and worked for Adopt a Street and March of Dimes. Her achieve ments and awards include being selected for the Georgia Certificate of Merit, Who's Who Among America's High School Students, and National Honor Roll, United States Achievement Academy. Amber had perfect attendance in both the 9th and 10th grades and had the highest average for the year in 9th grade Algebra 1.10th grade Keyboard ing, and Family and Consumer Sciences as well as 11th grade Accounting. In addition, she won third place in Accounting in the Region 1 FBLA 2001 Com petition.
