The complainant said that some unknown person! s), with an unknown object, attempted to gain entrance into her vehicle. She said that there were scratches on the outside lock that had not been there before. No items were taken from the vehicle. On December 14, Officer Bullington worked a criminal trespass case on Cedar Street. The complainant told Officer Bullington that some unknown person(s) threw a rock and broke the living room window of her residence. A 16 year old high school student reported to Assistant Chief George McDonald a theft by taking case on December 13. The victim said unknown person(s) took a calculator from his desk in a classroom. Officer Bullington worked a burglary case December 12 at a Walnut Street business. Some unknown person! s) shattered the glass out of the door. After gaining entry, money was removed from the cash register. A case of criminal trespass was reported to Assistant Chief George McDonald December 12. The victim from Sylvester reported that her windshield was damaged by unknown person(s) throwing rocks after the Lee - Worth County basketball game. Kelly Wins Poetry Contest Sarah Kelly, daughter of Steve and Leslie Bolton Kelly, recently won first place in the Baker County School District Annual Poetry Contest at MacClenny, Florida. Sarah and her seven and a half year old twin brother. Matt, are the grandchildren of Robert and Hazel Bolton of Leesburg, Georgia. Smithville Council To Appoint Downtown Development Authority Board Members Mayor Jack Smith and the Smithville City Council will appoint seven members to the Smithville Downtown Devel opment Authority. Two members will be appointed for a two year term, two members to four year term and three members to a six year term. The seven citizens appointed to the downtown development authority will be required to attend training seminars in Athens. Smith anticipates that serving on the downtown development authority will require a commitment of time from the members. The council concurred with the appointment of Debra Long to the RDC board. Mrs. Long who serves on the Leesburg City Council replaces Leesburg City Councilman Sidney Johnson who was unable to attend the RDC board meet ings. The council discussed the consent order issued by Judge Thurman in the case involving Ossie Lockett and Berlinder Black. The 45 days that they were given to clear the property have expired. The mobile home owned by Ossie Lockett burned and the property is owned by Berlinder Black. The City will proceed with having the property cleared. The city will place a tax lien on the property for the cost of clearing the property. The council noted that the time frame will expire on December 21 for the Robertson property to be cleared. If that property is not cleared, the City will also proceed with clearing that property and placing a tax lien on the property that was discussed. At their next meeting, the council will consider a salary increase for the council mem bers as well as extending their terms of office from two years to four years.
