Presents and bicycles where distributed at the Leesburg City Hall by (left to right) CpI. Ernie Thompson, Leesburg Police Chief Charles Moore, and Sgt. Steven Murray. Leesburg Municipal Court Judge Cathy Spillers issued sen tences December 18, 2001. Amber Lee Hester pled nolo to speeding 50 miles per hour in a 35 miles per hour zone. Hester was fined $50.00. Joannie Lee Juarez pled nolo to shoplifting charges. Juarez was fined $375.00 and sen tenced to six months probation. She was ordered to make resti tution in the amount of $25.41. Timothy Loman pled nolo to charges of shoplifting. Loman was fined $375.00 and sen tenced to six months probation in addition to a fine of $135.00 for old charges and six months probation for a total of $510.00 in fines and 12 months proba tion. Darren Lee Rawlins pled nolo to driving with an expired tag and driving without insurance. Rawlins was fined $375.00. Vandria Johnson West pled nolo to speeding 50 miles per hour in a 35 miles per hour zone. West was fined $50.00. The following people did not show for court or make arrange ments to pay their fine. A $25.00 fee has been added. If payment is not made in 20 days a Depart ment of Public Safety (DPS) Form 912 will be issued which will result in suspension of their driver’s license. John Arthur Mays was charged with speeding 48 miles per hour in a school zone. Mays was fined $205.00. Jeremy Alan Morris was charged with following too close. Morris was fined $95.00. Billy Lee Pollard was charged with speeding 41 miles per hour in a school zone. Pollard was fines $145.00. Shawn Michael Regnier was charged with not wearing a seat belt. Regnier was fined $40.00. Nakia D. Ross was charged with speeding 80 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone. She was fined $115.00. David R. Seward was charged with driving with an expired tag. Seward was fined $150.00. The LeeFOCUS Youth Team helped the Lee County Sertoma Club prepare gifts for a local family. On Friday, September 21, Ashtyn Bishop, Breckyn Bishop, Kelli Powell, Carolyn Kimbrel, Rachel Kimbrel, Hollis Johnson, Merritt Johnson, Ryan Barnette, and Leah Barnette worked to help Santa by wrapping the gifts and filling stockings with holiday cheer. The Lee County Utilities Authority voted last Thursday night during their meeting to extend the contract of Chris Boswell, the general manager, for three years. The authority also voted to increase Boswell’s salary from the current amount of $47,147.00 to $53,000.00 per year. Boswell will also receive the annual cost of living increase that will be granted to other county employees. The recommendations for the terms of the new contract was presented by the personnel committee that met December 3. W.F. Griffin and Dent Reeves sought clarification from the utilities board concerning options that Mr. Griffin has in s ee Utilities, Page 2 Bring One For The Chippper By William A. Clark, Director Lee County Public Works Once again, Lee County Public Works and Lee County Inert and Recyclable Holding Facility will sponsor and participate in the Bring One for The Chipper Program this year. This is a statewide program to recycle Christmas trees by chipping them for mulch or providing them for ponds and lakes as fish habitat. This program reduces the number of trees going into landfills or being abandoned on the roadside. This is the third year Lee County has partici pated in this program and it continues to grow taking in several hundred trees each year. Tree seedlings are given in exchange for each tree brought in and I understand that this years seedlings will be dog woods. The Christmas trees are Utilities Authority Extends General Manager’s Contract, Increases Salary Sentences Issued In Magistrate Court For Deposit Account Fraud three counts of deposit account fraud, was sentenced on the first count to 12 months in jail which can be served on supervised pro bation and a payment of fines, fees and restitution of $230.00. On the second count, Pittman was sentenced to 12 months jail which can be served on supervised pro bation and payment of fines, fees and restitution of $230.00 to run consecutive to count one. On the third count, Pittman was sen tenced to 12 months jail which can be served on supervised pro bation and payment of fine, fees and restitution of $237.00 to run consecutive to count two. Rodney C. Evans posted two separate cash bonds. Evans posted a cash bond of $288.00 and a sec ond cash bond of $363.45. Magistrate Court Judge Jim Thurman issued sentenced De cember 18, 2001 for deposit ac count fraud. Lisa Williams posted a cash bond of $27.44. Teresa Marie Heinemann posted three separate cash bonds. Heinemann posted a cash bond of $229.02, a cash bond of $678.87 and a cash bond of $329.83. Rickie L. Jenkins posted a cash bond of $246.11. Ollie R. Gordon posted a cash bond of $435.00. James W. Lee posted a cash bond of $254.50. Geraldine Jones posted a cash bond of $263.00. Adolph Solomon posted a cash bond of $233.23. Jimmy Pittman, charged with ground into mulch and offered back to the public for free for use in flowerbeds. This year's event will be Saturday, January 5th from 10:00 until 6:00 at the Lee County Inert & Recyclable Holding Facility located on State Hwy. 32 east next to Public Works.
