Motion To Hire New Soccer Coach Fails
Following a short executive ses

employ Trevor Howard as the
new head girls soccer coach
failed. Voting to employ Howard
as the girls soccer coach were
Terrie Torres and Greg Duke.
Voting against the motion were
Chairperson Sylvia Vann and
Kitty Bishop. Andy McCrary ab
stained from voting citing the
need for additional information.
The motion to name Howard as
the girls coach caught the parents
and players in attendance at the
meeting off-guard. Before the
board went into executive ses

assistant coach, informed the
board that he was told that a meet
ing was scheduled Wednesday to
introduce the new coach.
Heitland said that he was later
told that the meeting was post
poned. Marty Smith asked to ad
dress the board but was told that
he was not on the agenda. Smith
was assured that he could get on
the agenda for the next meeting.
Smith wanted to know if a new
coach would be named before the
next scheduled meeting and was
assured he would be able to speak
before a soccer coach was named.
A short time after the board
went into executive session.
Chairperson Vann came out and
asked if that person that wanted
to address the board was still
present, he would need to speak
tright away to the board members.
Once the board reconvened. Mr.
Smith told the board that this was
bad timing to name a new coach
with one week before the season
begins. Smith encouraged the
board to do what is in the best
interest of the children. He asked

the school board.
Dr. Bill Lewis. Superintendent,

trying to fill the head coaching
position for two years. He said

job. Heitland responded that he
considered it but was not able to
accept a full time teaching posi
tion.
Parents in the audience in
quired about Howard’s soccer
background and qualifications.

played soccer all of his life and
was certified in education. Par
