Leesburg Officials Visit The Capitol
Leesburg officials Mayor Bob Boney and Councilman Richard Bush were
special guests of State Senator George Hooks at the State Capitol on
Wednesday, January 29,2002. The local officials took the time to discuss local
needs as well as observe Senate Business during their recent visit. Pictured

The Leesburg City Council honored City Attorney
Bill Cannnon during Tuesday night’s meeting. Mr.
Cannon has been the Leesburg City Attorney since
1970. Mr. Cannon will soon be leaving the area to
begin work for the Methodist Church and will be
moving to North Carolina. Pictured are Leesburg

Johnson Asks
Citizens To
Support
SPLOST
George “Smitty” Johnson, Lee
County businessman, spoke the
Leesburg City Council Tuesday
night and asked the Council to
support the upcoming SPLOST
referendum.
Lee County citizens will have
the opportunity to vote for
SPLOST IV on March 19.
Mr. Johnson said that everyone
in Lee County will benefit from
the continuation of the one per
cent sales tax.
Mr. Johnson who serves on the
Library Board said that money
from the SPLOST will be used to
fund a new library in the Redbone
District. The library will be
housed in the current fire station
on Philema Road.
Sheriffs officers recently
worked cases involving disor
derly while intoxicated, posses
sion of marijuana, entering auto,
and robbery.
On February 25, during a traf
fic stop at Ga. Hwy 3 and Can
non Drive, Ashley Nicole
Johnson, 18. of Plains, was
charged with failure to maintain
lane, DUI (drugs) less safe, and
possession of marijuana less than
one ounce.
Also on February 25, while re
sponding to a call of disorderly
person, officers discovered that
Ernest Wayne McCrary. Jr., 25.
of 1137 U.S. 19 South, Leesburg,
was in possession of a quantity
of marijuana. McCrary was
charged with disorderly while in
toxicated and possession of mari
juana less than one ounce.
On February 27, while conduct
ing a traffic stop, officers arrested
William Potter, 27. 284 Linden
Road #12. Leesburg, and Allen
Pridgen. 18,135 Creek Isle Drive,
Leesburg. Potter was charged
Merck & Co., Inc. recently donated a 1978 Dodge ambulance to the Lee County
Emergency Services. The ambulance was originally used by Merck in New Jersey
and then transferred to the Flint River Plant in 1992. Lee County will transform
the ambulance into a “Disaster Vehicle”. It will store and transport a vast array
of equipment that can be used in case of a disaster. Pictured with the ambulance

State Patrol Files Montly Report
The Georgia State Patrol at Al
bany announced that eight traffic
accidents in Lee County were in
vestigated during the month of
February, 2002. These accidents
resulted in eleven injuries and no
deaths.
In the area of enforcement by
Post 40, Sergeant First Class E.
L. Williams said his officers had
made 109 arrests and issued 147
warnings during the month.
Various courts in Lee County
disposed of 123 pending traffic
cases during the month with the
following: 61 guilty pleas, 14
bond forfeitures, two cases dis
missed and 46 nolo contendre
pleas. Sergeant Williams ex
plained that cases and arrests
would seldom be the same num
ber for each month because some
cases are carried over into the
next month to coincide with court
dates.
He also pointed out that fines
and forfeitures amounted to
$1,820.00 for the month of Feb
ruary which was paid to the courts
of Lee County.

charged with possession of mari

William Davis, 23. of Sylvester
was charged with possession of
marijuana less than an ounce on
March 1. Officers had responded
to an entering auto report at
Walmart and found Davis to be
in possession of marijuana.
Also on March 1. during a traf
fic stop on Old Leesburg Road
and U.S. Highway 19 South, of
ficers arrested Brian Chadwick
Jeffcoat, 18, of 121 Turnkey
Circle. Leesburg, and Quinton
Deon Blakely. 18, of 1510
Colquitt Avenue, Albany.
Jeffcoat was charged with DUI
(drugs), weaving on roadway,
and possession marijuana less
than an ounce. Blakely was
charged with possession of mari
juana less than an ounce. A ju
venile was charged with posses
sion of marijuana less than an
ounce, carrying a concealed
weapon, and carrying a pistol
without a license.
On March 2, a juvenile was
charged with theft by shoplifting
after attempting to exit Walmart
with unpaid items.
After responding to a fight at
2825 Ledo Road, officers ar
rested Steven Michael Wilson,
18, of 151 Worthy Manor Drive,
Albany. He was charged with
disorderly conduct.
Randy Alan Lord, 44,401 Flint
Avenue, Albany, was arrested af
ter a complaint was filed by vic
tims regarding an incident that
occurred at Woodland MHP
Lord was charged with robbery
(3 counts), false imprisonment (4
counts), and aggressive driving.
On March 3. Michael Rowl, 38.
of 102-B Henrietta Court, Lees
burg. was charged with disor
derly conduct.
Cases Worked By The
Smithville Police Department
Smithville Police Chief Walt
Causey reports that officers
worked several cases recently in
volving waste storage, DUI.
criminal trespass, disorderly con
duct, speeding, driving while li
cense suspended and fighting
with a knife.
Amanda Williams, of 162 Lov
ers Lane Road, was issued a sum
mons on February 21 by Officer
S.H. Strain for 12 counts of waste
storage on February 21. The
Smithville Police Department re
ceived several reports of the
waste being thrown out in the
Williams’ back yard. Amanda
Williams was summoned to the
March term of court but was told
if the waste was cleaned up be
fore the court date, the summons
would be dismissed.
Elgin Billings, 50, of 217 Billy
Strong Road, Dawson, was
charged by Georgia State Trooper
Hearon with DUI second offense
and driving while license sus
pended February 23.
Jeffery Brown, 19, of 132 Wells
Street Apartment A-5, was
charged with criminal trespassing
and disorderly conduct by Chief
Walt Causey February 4.
Santonio Jarod Nichols, 22, of
132 Wells Street Apartment A-2,
was charged with disorderly con
duct. On March 3, Officer D.H.
Smith was dispatched to 132
Wells Street in reference to shots
being fired behind Apartment A-
3. Nichols told the officer that he
was told by a neighbor that some
one had broken into her apart
ment and her child was in the
apartment. When he saw the per
son (Richard Green), he tried to
keep him there by pointing a gun
at Green. Green ran and Nichols
fired the gun. Nichols was
charged with reckless conduct,
aggravated assault, pointing a gun
at another and possession of a
firearm during the commission of
a felony.
Richard Green was charged
with disorderly conduct. Both
Green and Nichols were taken to
the Lee County Jail and tuned
over to the jailer for processing.
Brandon Thomas Smith, 23, of
303 Newberry Chambers Road,
Colquitt, was charged with
speeding 64 in a 35 m.p.h. zone
and driving while license sus
pended with a served date of
August 7,1999 by Chief Causey
on February 20. Chief Causey
stopped Smith for speeding in the
100 block of Stanton Drive. He
was arrested on the two charges
and transported to the Lee
County Jail for booking.
Jesse Lee Angry, 51, was
charged by Chief Causey with
disorderly conduct (fighting with
a knife) on February 19. Chief
Causey received a call that there
was a disturbance on Cedar
Street. The victim was cut on the
hand. Mr. Angry was transported
to the Lee County Jail.
Leesburg Police Files Weekly Report
Chief Charles Moore reports
that officers worked calls includ
ing vandalism, larceny, and dis
orderly conduct.
Robert Earl Lynn, 22, of 122
Turnkey Circle, Leesburg, and
Daniel Ray Lynn. 20, of 103 3rd
Street Leesburg, were charged
with disorderly conduct on Feb
ruary 25. Officer Barrett re
sponded to a call in reference to
a fight. Complainant advised that
the offenders started a fight with
her son. While the officer con
ducted the interview, Robert Lynn
hit the hood of the car several
times wit his fist, and Daniel Lynn
was using obscene language to
ward the complainant.
On February 26, Officer Steele
responded to a call of vandalism
at St. Stephens Episcopal Church.
A member of the church had
found a broken window to a util
ity shed behind the church.
On February 27, a victim ad
vised that, while at Kystals, she
left her wallet in the bathroom.
The wallet contained approxi
mately $20, four credit cards, six
pictures, and her drivers license.
She stated she returned to the
bathroom as soon as she realized
she was missing her wallet, but
the wallet was gone.
Valerie Elaine Clark, 28, of
Sylvester was charged with driv
ing while license suspended on
February 28. A sheriff' depart
ment investigator observed Clark
driving a vehicle and knew that
her license was suspended. The
vehicle was left at the scene with
her consent and she was trans
ported to the Lee County jail.
Lt. Murphy worked a report of
theft by taking on March 1. Com
plainant advised that during the
day, an unknown person(s) had
removed a blue boy’s bike val
ued at $80, and a burgandy
mountain bike, valued at $100,
from her Cedar Street residence.
There are no suspects at this time.
On March 2, an unknown
person(s) broke a window in the
front door of the weight room at
the high school. Approximately
$50 in damage was done.
