offer summer school for Lee
County students in the areas of
Mathematics, Social Studies. En
glish. and Science.
Summer School will run from
Monday. June 3, through Thurs
day, June 28. Due to scheduling,
students will be permitted to take
only one course for 1/2 unit credit
at a cost of $150.00 (cash or
money order only).
Registration will be on Wednes
day, May 29,2002 at Lee County
High School beginning at 7:00
a.m. Students must have prior
approval from their counselor and
must have completed a Summer
School Registration Form before
paying for their class.

Ordinance Violators Sentenced
In Lee County Magistrate Court
The Lee County Magistrate
Court met May 7, 2002, with
Judge Jim Thurman presiding.
The following sentences were is
sued.
Wayne Lamar Troup, of Lees
burg, charged with disorderly
while intoxicated, pled guilty
and was sentenced to 90 days on
probation and payment of $100
fine.
Jerry Wayne Owens, of Smith-
ville, charged with disorderly
conduct, pled nolo and was sen
tenced to six months probation
and payment of $150 fine.
Carla Delores Owens, of
Smithville, charged with disor
derly conduct, pled nolo and was
sentenced to six months proba
tion and payment of $150 fine.
Rodney Morris, of Leesburg,
charged with four counts deposit
account fraud, pled guilty to all
counts. On the first count he was
sentenced to 12 months in jail,
all but 30 days may be served
on probation, and payment of
$102.05 restitution. On the sec
ond count, he was sentenced to
payment of $102.05. On the
third count, he was sentenced to
payment of $65.58. On the
fourth count, he was sentenced
to payment of $153.43.
Jessie James Johnson, Jr., of
Leesburg, charged with disor
derly conduct, pled guilty and
was sentenced to 30 days in jail.
Paul Berry Robertson, of Lees
burg, charged with disorderly
conduct, pled nolo and was sen
tenced to six months probation
and payment of $250 fine.
Lauren Renee Robertson, of
Leesburg, charged with disor
derly conduct, pled nolo and was
sentenced to six months proba
tion and 50 hours of community
service.
Bobby Jermaine Key, of Le
slie, charged with criminal tres
pass, pled nolle prosequi.
Jerry Edwards, of Leesburg,
charged with disorderly conduct,
pled guilty and was sentenced to
six months probation and pay
ment of $500 fine.
Sabrma Donley Holt, of
Colquitt, GA, charged with
shoplifting, pled guilty and was
sentenced to 12 months proba
tion, payment of $500 fine, and
banned from Walmart.
Timothy McClelland, of Al
bany, charged with shoplifting,
pled guilty and was sentenced to
12 months in jail, all but 24
hours may be served on proba
tion, payment of $500 fine, and
banned from Walmart.
Scott E. Farris, of Albany,
charged with shoplifting, will be
served with a bench warrant.
James Michael Wood, of Lees
burg, charged with disorderly
conduct, pled guilty and was
sentenced to 60 days in jail.
Michael Bryan Kennedy, of
Leesburg, charged with disor
derly conduct, was found not
guilty.
Ashley McDonald, of Lees
burg, charged with disorderly
conduct, pled nolo and was sen
tenced to 12 months on proba
tion and payment of $330 fine.
Workman Sentenced For Income Tax Fraud

Workman, 56, of Leesburg, Geor
gia, has been sentenced by Chief
District Court Judge W. Louis
Sands.

Workman pled guilty on March
6. 2002. to Count One of an in
dictment charging him with Mak
ing a False Declaration on his In
come Tax Return for the 1996
calendar year. According to the
facts stipulated to in the plea
agreement, on or about February
26, 1996, while employed as the
controller or financial officer for
Cargill Peanuts Products in Daw
son. Georgia, Workman em
bezzled a check in the amount of
$351,978.59, which belonged to
his employer and deposited the
check into a bank account he con
trolled at First Union National
Bank of Albany, Georgia.

in his return that his total income
for that year was $99,482.44. The
total amount of taxes owed to the
Internal Revenue Service is
$133,653.00.
These charges are the result of
an investigation conducted by
Special Agents of the Internal
Revenue Service, Criminal Inves
tigation, and the Albany office of
the Federal Bureau of Investiga
tion. Assistant United States At
torney James N. Crane is pros
ecuting the case for the govern
ment.
Workman was sentenced to
serve eighteen (18) months in
prison to be followed by one (1)
year of Supervised Release. He
was also ordered to pay restitu
tion to Cargill Peanuts Products
in the amount of $251,702.00 and
to pay all back taxes and penal
ties.

Smithville Police Chief Walt
Causey issued the following re
port for the Smithville Police
Department.
According to Kathy Albright.
Public Relation Officer, police
officers worked several cases in
cluding cases involving lost or
stolen property and public distur
bance.
Chief Walt Causey worked a
case May 10 involving lost or sto
len property. Chief Causey was
told by the complainant that he
carried his cellular phone inside
a service station and left it. When
he returned to get the phone, it
was missing.
Chief Causey worked a distur
bance call May 9 on Wells Street.
The female complainant wanted
her male companion out of her
house. She refused to sign a com
plaint but the man left on his own
accord.
