Lee County Deputies
Make Arrests
where he was booked.
William V. Echeveste, of 129
Churchill Circle, was charged
with passing on hill crest, stop
sign violation and driving under
the influence of alcohol by Of
ficer David Hamilton. Officer
made a traffic stop in the 1300
block of Lovers Lane Road.
While Officer Hamilton was
traveling south on Lovers Lane
Road, he saw a vehicle’s head
lights in his lane (southbound)
traveling north. The vehicle
was overtaking another on the
hill crest. The officer applied
his brakes quickly and swerved
to the shoulder of the road as
the vehicle passed him. The
officer made contact with the
driver, William Echeveste, as he
slowed to a stop sign at Lovers
Lane Road and the East - West
Connector. The officer detected
the odor of alcoholic beverage
on his breath and person. He
was placed under arrest.
Brenda Laye Llournoy, 51, of
6012 James Drive, was charged
with theft by shoplifting by
Dep. Daniell McTyeire on
December 12 while the of
ficer was working security for
Wal-Mart. The officer observed
Ms. Llournoy walk through the
security arches while leaving
the store and the alarm went
off. She was asked for her
receipt which was accurate. The
officer asked her to step back
through the security arches and
the alarm went off. She then
retrieved two items from her
purse. A Wal-Mart manager
said they would press charges
and the subject was then taken
into custody. Two sterling silver
necklaces valued at $24.80 were
recovered.
Amber Nicole Wills, 19, of
205 Kinchafoonee Creek Road,
was charged with criminal tres
pass December 12 by Officer
Daniell McTyeire. Miss Wills
returned to Wal-Mart after being
told on June 19, 2003 not to
return to the store.

Leesburg Police Chief
Charles Moore reports that of
ficers worked several cases and
incidents lately including cases
involving public drunkenness,
speeding, D.U.I. (alcohol),
enticing a child for indecent
purposes.
Annie Laura Myrick, 56, of
223 Lourth Street, was charged
with public drunkenness
December 15 by Capt. Tim L.
Murphy. She was charged by
Capt. Murphy at a convenience
store on Main Street.

Nancy Bryant Robinson, 45,
154 Stanton Drive, Smithville,
was charged with speed
ing 70 miles per hour in a 55
speed zone and D.U.I. (alco
hol) December 12 by Officer
Gregory Barrett. Officer Barrett
was traveling south on GA
Hwy 3 when he checked Ms.
Robinson’s vehicle with radar
and she was driving 68 m.p.h.
The officer then clocked her
at 70 m.p.h. After stopping the
vehicle, Officer Barrett smelled
the strong odor of an alcoholic
beverage on her breath. She
tested positive on an alco sen
sor test.
Carl Dean Whitaker, 41, was
charged December 7 with entic
ing a child for indecent pur
poses by Capt Tim L. Murphy.
The complainant stated that she
picked up the telephone at her
home and over heard a conver
sation between her 14 year old
daughter and a male who said
that he was Carl Whitaker. He
stated that he next the child
was only 14 years old. The 14
year old female stated on the
phone that she would be “there”
at 7:30 a.m. the next morn
ing. Capt. Murphy patrolled
the area where the 14 year old
female was to meet Whitaker
and observed the child walk up
to Whitaker’s truck. Whitaker
drove off with the 14 year old
in the truck and Capt. Murphy
stopped the vehicle. The child’s
mother was called to the scene
to pick up her daughter. Whita
ker was arrested and transport
ed to the Lee County Jail.
Lee County Sheriff Harold
Breeden reports that officers
with the sheriff’s department
worked several cases and
incidents during the past week
including cases involving
criminal trespass, simple bat
tery, interference with 911 call,
theft by shoplifting, terroristic
threats, cruelty to children,
possession/consumption by un
derage person, public drunken
ness, reckless driving, driving
under the influence of alcohol,
driving on a suspended license,
passing on hill crest, stop sign
violation, theft by shoplifting,
and criminal trespass.
Richard Nelson Elkins, Jr.,
25, of 166 Hartley Lane, was
charged with criminal trespass,
simple battery and interference
with a 911 call December 14 by
Officer David Hamilton. Officer
Hamilton responded to Hartley
Lane resident in response to a
domestic dispute.
Michael Trevante Jordan,
19, of 213 Wheeler Street, was
charged with shoplifting by
Wal-Mart employee December
14. Cpl. Howard Lisher was
dispatched to Wal-Mart where
Jordan was in custody for shop
lifting a bag of candy valued at
$2.60. The officer transported
Jordan to the Lee County Jail
where he was booked and
jailed.
Ruth Ann Welborn, 47, of
1093 Hwy 377, Leesburg, was
charged with terroristic threats
and acts and cruelty to children
December 14 by Officer M.R.
Wilcox. Officer Wilcox was
dispatched in reference to a 911
call made by Ms. Welborn.
Ronnie Dowdell, 24, of 207
Slatter King Drive, was charged
with theft by shoplifting De
cember 13. Dep. Howard Hamil
responded to the Shoe Depot
located at 2843 Ledo Road in
reference to a theft. The man
ager told the officer that Ronnie
Dowdell and two other males
left the store without paying
for shoes. As they ran through
the parking lot, Dowdell was
stopped by three people who
held him until an officer arrived.
The store manager said that
she wanted to press charges
and told Dowdell that he was
under arrest for shoplifting. The
officer transported him to the
Lee County Jail where he was
booked.
Elizabeth B. Peden, 40, of
465 Dixie Road, was charged
with shoplifting December 13
by store personnel at Wal-Mart,
She exited the store with a
shopping cart of merchandise
without paying for it. Cpl.
Howard Lisher transported her
to the Lee County Jail where
she was booked. The Wal-Mart
employee was told by the offi
cer to see Magistrate Judge Jim
Thurman to obtain a warrant for
Mrs. Peden.
William Earl Taylor, 17,
of 3609 Palmyra Road, was
charged with possession/
consumption by underage
person and public drunken
ness December 13 by Officer
Jeffery Kirt. Officer Kirt made
contact with William Taylor at
a convenience store in the 1500
block of Hwy. 19 South. Several
motorists called and complained
about the subject stepping out
into traffic and laughing at
them. Taylor tested positive on
a roadside alco sensor test. He
was placed under arrest and
transported to the Lee County
Jail for booking.
Dale Albert Maine, 21, of 118
Lourth Ave., was charged with
reckless driving, driving under
the influence and driving on a
suspended license December 13
by Officer Earl Yearicks. Of
ficer Yearicks observed Maine
backing out of a parking space
at Wal-Mart while revving high
rpms. He then went forward
at a higher rate of speed than
normal. After stopping Maine,
the officer discovered Maine’s
license was suspended for DUI
on August 12, 2003. When the
officer placed him in the patrol
car, the officer smelled a strong
odor of alcoholic beverage com
ing from Maine’s person. Maine
refused to take an alcohol breath
test. The officer also discovered
an open bottle of vodka in the
bed of the truck. He was trans
ported to the Lee County Jail

Making Christmas Merrier
The Leesburg City Hall employees and police officers with the Leesburg Police
Department collected toys and bicycles from local businesses and citizens.
Tuesday, December 16, Police Chief Charles Moore and Cathy Daniel of the
Leesburg City Hall presented the toys and bikes to Cathy Turner of the Lee County
Department of Family and Children Services. The toys and bikes will help make
Christmas a little brighter for the children in foster care in Lee County. Pictured
are Chief Moore, Cathy Turner and Cathy Daniel.
