Lee County High-Lights
By Dr. Bill Truby, Principal
Lee County High School
Our first home game was a
success on many fronts. We
had a huge home crowd, lots
of fun, and a victory on the
field. The football team is 2-0
with that 42-21 triumph. And,
as I always say, our band, flag
line, dance line, drum line
and cheerleaders are unde
feated, too. I am confident
I can also add our fans to
that list of “undefeated.” We
outnumbered the home team
in the stands when we played
Worth, and our home game
was no contest. Thanks for
your support!
Open House took place on
August 29th from 6-7:30 p.m.
This was an informal setting
YGHILD CARE.

Elementary School Gym. Transportation
included. 1:15 ratio, safe environment.
Includes homework, snack, creative, and
sports times, field trips, and much more!
For more information, call 759-9008.

where parents and guests
came into the building during
that time period and went
around and met teachers. If
you missed the Open House,
I encourage you to contact a
teacher if you have any ques
tions at all. Remember, the
grading period ends Septem
ber 16th!
On Monday the 29th, LCHS
opened up its GO Center
in Room 716 as part of our
Career Center. This room
will be an important part of
tying a student’s education to
his/her career choices. Mrs.
Parker, our Vocational Super
visor, and Mrs. Betty Steel,
Vocational Receptionist, are
our leaders in this important
responsibility. We thank them
for their hospitality and en
thusiasm in getting us GOing.
If you have any questions
about the GO Center, please
call 903-2268.
Last week’s Blood Drive
exceeded our goal by 25%.
When we do something, we
do it right! Thanks to our
students and sponsors and vis
itors from off the street who
made the Red Cross’ event
so successful. We will have
another one in January.
Our Pep Rally was mind
and ear blowing - just the
way (uh, uh, uh, uh) we like
it! The gym rocked and our
fall athletes got some well
deserved recognition. Coach
Dowling was our emcee
and did a great job.
Thanks, band and
cheerleaders for
another wonderful
memory. The seniors
won the coveted
Spirit Stick.
The first home
game for the softball
team took place last Tues
day. The JV team defeated
Bainbridge 6-1 and then the
varsity dismantled the Lady
Bearcats by a 12-0 margin in
5 innings. The highlight of
the game was the first over-
the-fence homerun at home
since we have been playing
fast pitch. Destiny Parsons
provided the Big Fly. Sam
Posey also added an inside -
the-park home run while Cal-
lie Thompson was exceptional
on the mound.
We offer congratulations
to several of our outstanding
students. Will Hackett and
Lindsey Landrieu have been
selected as our High School
Heisman finalists. This award
is based on scholarship, ath
letics, and citizenship. Chuck
Kluball has been nominated
for the 44th Annual United
States Senate Youth Program.
Chuck has distinguished
himself as a scholar, citizen,
and co-curricular participant.
They must now compete at
the next level to gain further
honors and scholarships.

during the school day. Here is
the procedure that we would
like for you to follow, keeping
in mind that class interrup
tions affect more than one
student. If you phone or stop
by the front office, we will
plan on reaching that student
in one of two ways. First, if it
is just information
that needs to be
conveyed, we
will make that
part of our 2:
11 announce
ments, when
our students
are expect
ing to hear such
announcements.
But, if it is an emergency, we
will call the student in the
classroom. With nearly 1700
students, you can imagine the
number of messages we get
each day. Your cooperation
with this message system will
go a long way in keeping the
academic level at LCHS at its
high and distinctive level.
Students can prepare for the
SAT through an online course
made available from the
Georgia Department of Edu
cation. Please check with our
guidance office for details.
The SAT is a quality measure
of college preparedness.
While public schools must
supply contact information of
students to military recruit
ers, parents (or students 18
and older) have the right to
request that personal informa
tion not be released under the
Family Educational Rights
and Privacy Act. We have
the obligation to allow you to
opt out. Please let us know as
soon as possible. (This infor
mation is also in your Student
Handbook.)
If you missed the chance to
get your parking permit, you
can do that any time in Stu
dent Services. You still need
the $15, your driver’s license,
tag number, a form filled out,
and proof of insurance.
We have access to another
help to parents and students.
Links to Learning is a web
site that helps students review
for all tests from the state
as well as many classes they
are taking. You will need a
Username and Password, so
you will need to contact us
at the high school for that
information. (Because these
are purchased and licensed
sites, I cannot publish details
for the public.)
All persons interested in
attending the Fall Academy
Day on Saturday, Septem
ber 17, 2005 can contact the
Academy Director, Nancy
Brooks, at 770-661-0999.
This day is set aside to find
out more about appointments
to our service academies.
Let’s take a quick look at
other events and dates that are
quickly approaching.
We are planning on hav
ing a Pep Rally in two weeks
at about 2:30 when we play
Westover at home on the 9th.
These affairs are standing
room only in the gym, so if
you plan to attend, get there
early.
Our next football game
is the 2nd against Turner
County. Our next home game
is September 9th against
Westover, which is off to
a strong start. Tickets are
$7 - the same as last year!
Homecoming this year is on
September 30th against Ware
County.
The first series of tests that
we will offer this year will
be the GHSGT re-takes on
September 12-16 at the high
school. In preparation for
these important graduation
requirements, we will be pro
viding intense training for the
students during fourth period
over the next 2 weeks. We
hope to see our passing per
centage rise just a bit more.
Just a reminder that there
have been numerous changes
with the HOPE bill. The Class
of 2007 will see most of the
effects of the new bill. Pri
marily, there will be a switch
to a 4.0 scale, more check
ing of grades, lower book
allowance, and hour caps. Be
sure to consult your guidance
counselor for specific infor
mation as to how these items
- and others - relate to you.
This year’s seniors, the class
of 2006, have the opportunity
to participate in the Grad
Nite Celebration at Disney
World in Orlando next April.
Seniors should let me know of
their interest, as we will have
LCMS 7th Grade Students Of The Week
Lee County Middle School Seventh Grade Students
of the Week for the week of August 22-26 pictured
on the front row are Shana Sparks and Kendall
Harris. Pictured on the second row are Marteze
Thomas and Kaylee Dixon.

and applications are available
in the office. We need 40 to
participate.
School Picture Day is Sep
tember 13th.
Remember, we do have a
break coming up real soon as
Labor Day (September 5th)
will be celebrated the first
weekend of September. Enjoy,
but be safe and smart!
Seniors will have their
graduation Supplies Assembly
on September 22nd during
first period.
The football team has its
own web site. You can get
information and see pictures
at leecountytrojans.com. And
softball also has its own site
at leecountysoftball.com.http:
//lchsag.blogspot.com is a site
to get caught up with our ag
riculture education schedules
and events. I’m sure others
will be adding their sites as
well. We’ll keep you posted!
Please check out our web
site (lee.kl2.ga.us) for supply
lists and other school infor
mation at any time. We have
answers to all of your ques
tions!

Here are the dates of some
other upcoming sporting
events. In football, the first
JV and 9th grade games are
set for September 1st against
Westover beginning at 4:30.
These are away games. The
girls’ fast pitch softball plays
its next few games on the road
as does the JV Softball team.
They play at Tift on the 30th
and Thomasville Central on
Thursday. Cross Country will
run this week at Valdosta at
the Wildcat Invitational. This
is on Saturday morning, Sep
tember 3rd. Go Trojans!
Cell phones are still a hot
topic - and not always in a
positive way. We encourage
people to prepare for emer
gency situations by having
access to cell phones on the
way to and from school.
This is modern America and
certainly a technologically
advanced era. However, the
large number of students who
think that phones can be used
in school - for photos, text
messaging, or even phone
calls - disappoints me. Par
ents, my hope is that you will
remind our students about
our rules and your rules about
the use of cell phones. Every
parent I’ve had to call on this
issue has said the same thing:
“My child knows better and
we have told him (or her)
that!” We can’t ever forget
why we are in school, and dis
tractions from the educational
process hurt more than the
user. Thanks for your support
of this important item!
We have received the test
results from last year’s SAT
and ACT tests. We can get
pretty comfy looking at the
bottom line scores, knowing
that LCHS does well. How
ever, we have several students
who do exceptionally well
and keep our averages high.
The key to success on these
tests and, more importantly,
the key to success in college
is to take a more rigorous
course load while in high
school. Please take the high
road in pursuit of the future.
A GPA does not mean what
it used to mean. Colleges are
looking for students who will
succeed, and that is based
on the preparation they have
received for college work. If
you are thinking about UGA,
Georgia Tech, or other major
universities, course selection
is a very high priority. Go for
AP, Honors, and dual enroll
ment courses. Take the extra
year of science or mathemat
ics. Keep the doors for your
future wide open!
