kills hundreds of men. After
lung cancer, prostate cancer
is the second leading cause of
all cancer deaths in men in the
United States.
Prostate cancer in its early
states usually has no symp
toms. Yet early detection
yields favorable results in
most. A prostate-specific an
tigen (PSA) test with a digital
rectal exam (DRE) can help
to detect prostate cancer and
predict your risk of having
prostate cancer.
Know your prostate cancer
risks:
* Increasing age (50 years
and above)
* A high fat diet
* Family history of prostate
cancer
* African American race

Water Bills
To Reach
$100?
Ronnie Dudley of Steven
son and Palmer presented the
Leesburg Water and Sewer
Committee some startling
figures last week.
The City of Leesburg is in
the process of upgrading its
sewer treatment facility in an
ticipation of new subdivisions
planned within the city limits.
The cost of adding capacity
to the city’s system has sky
rocketed from the first projec
tions of building constructed
wetlands. The treatment plant
will cost at least twice as much
as first anticipated.
The loan payback for the $5.5
million plant will be $28,000
a month. The cost increase
per customer will be $32.35 a
month (based on the current
number of customers). The
cost per customer for operating
the plant per month should be
$23.20. Added to the monthly
water bill that averages $37.28,
a city of Leesburg water and
sewer customer could have a
bill of $91.83 (before garbage
is added).

said he could see three pos
sibilities for the council. 1. Do
nothing. 2. Increase water bills,
or 3. Have the developers of the
new subdivision pay the cost
up front to build a new plant.
The Committee took no ac
tion.

Young Builders at KPS
As a part ot the kindergarten curriculum at Kinchafoonee Primary School,
Mrs. Bass’ students spend a segment of each school day working at learning
centers. Each theme based center is a designated area, organized with
materials where the children use a hands-on approach focusing on specific
skills and objectives. Monday brought a new and exciting center to their
classroom. Mr. Johnny Golden and Mr. James Atkins delivered two boxes
containing new student tables for the students to help put together. As the
unpacking and assembling began, all the students had to use a variety of their
state required skills, including thinking and reasoning, prediction, following
directions, counting and sorting, spatial relations, geometrical shapes, and
patterns. This unique learning experience taught many lessons and included
a bonus—the tables became a new part of their classroom and will provide
many fond memories of this learning experience during the remainder of
the year.

When you are working
near bathtubs or sinks, there
are a couple of precautions
that you can take that could
save you damaging the sink
or tub or losing small items.
Cover the tub or sink with
an old sheet in case you drop
something that might chip
the surface. Also, put in the
plug so that small screws or
nails don’t drop down the
waste pipe. Repair a cracked
sink temporarily by sticking
strips of linen tape or heavy
duty waterproofing tape to the
outside then cover with two
coats of gloss paint.
