New Season Starts
With Brasil, Brazil
Special to the Ledger
A varied lineup for 2005-2006 for Albany
Concert Association’s 71st year promises a
special treat for local concert audiences. The
opening performance of Brasil, Brazil, on
October 8, 2005, at 8:00 PM at the Albany
Municipal Auditorium, is a bombshell of a
program and something new and different to
Albany audiences.
“If you’ve never been to Rio, this is the next
best thing.” - Betty Francis, The Desert Sun,
Palm Springs.
BRASIL, BRAZIL features internation-
ally-renowned singers Ana Gazzola and Sonia
Santos who, with their 7-8 piece band and
3 dancers, deliver the fervor , enthusiasm
and excitement of popular Brazilian music -
tinged with jazz and spiced with strong Latin
and African rhythms. The dancers perform
Maculele and Capoeira, unique to Brazil.
Offering the best-known standards of classic
and contemporary Brazilian Jazz, Ana, Sonia
and their band perform musical arrangements
that present all the rhythms and faces of this
colorful and tropical culture. With some of
the best musicians from the North and South
of Brazil performing on a variety of unique,
authentic instruments, the Albany audience
will be both entertained and educated about
this South American country.
In the October 8 program at the Albany
Municipal Auditorium, the group will present
the soulfulness, richness and classical work
that Brazilian music carries in its history.
Through their representation of the best
of Brazilian music, like classical anthems
and songs that the world recognizes, Brasil,
Brazil has been able to add a spin of their
own. They created a form of music known as
samba funk. They took the original samba
that originated in Brazil and offered a little of
today’s current funk flavor to create a form of
music that most music lovers can’t resist.
