Jonah’s Theory
By Jonah Bullock
It’s been over a year since
I have given my Dad a break
from writing his weekly ar
ticle. I am two years old now
and have been through a lot.
This week I want to share
something that happened
to me a couple of months
back. I was playing in my
house with my brother’s and
sister’s Legos. Legos are cool
little blocks with which you
can build and create things.
They have little people to go
along with them. A couple
of people in one Lego set
are soccer players. A soccer
player wouldn’t be much of a
soccer player without a soccer
ball, so this set comes with a
soccer ball. The soccer ball
is about as big as a pea. I like
peas.
One day I put the soccer ball
in my mouth, and my Mom
was telling me
“No, no’’ and before she
could get to me, I swallowed
it. All I could say was, “LTh
oh.’’ I was bummed that I did
not have a soccer ball to play
with but a couple of days later
they found the soccer ball in
my diaper. Can you believe it?
That ball was swallowed and
traveled through my diges
tive system, and came out the
other end in one of my messy
diapers.
I’m writing you this week
because I was wondering how
that soccer ball felt. I believe
some of you may feel like
you have been swallowed by
something, or someone bigger
than you. You have traveled
through darkness and unfa
miliar places and have felt
all alone. When you thought
there was light at the end of
the tunnel, your hopes were
crushed to find you were in a
big, fat, stinky mess. Things
and people of this world can
do you that way, but there is
more to my soccer ball story.
The good part of the story is
that the soccer ball cleaned up
well, with some heavy-duty
cleaner, of course.
Jesus is in the business of
cleaning up people who are
swallowed up by Satan and
the world (Hebrews 9:14). He
is a God who walks with us
in the darkest of times (Psalm
23:4). The Bible says, ?If we
confess our sins, He is faithful
and righteous to forgive us our
sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness? (1 John 1:9).
Talk to God today, and thank
Him for dying on the cross for
you. Let Him know that you
are sorry for your sins and
how the world has swallowed
you up, and start living for
Him today. Find someone like
my Dad who can teach you the
Bible, and get involved in a
great church.
It is bad news that the world
will swallow you up like it
does. It is great news, though,
that in Christ you clean up
well.

What The Bible Teaches
By Frank Taylor
At the heart of Christianity
is faith.
Most
believers
under
stand that
the Chris
tian life is
conceived
by grace
through
faith, “For
by grace
you are saved through faith
and this is not of yourselves,
it is the gift of God; it is not
of works, so that no one can
boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9). But
what too many Christians
fail to understand is that the
Christian life is continued and
completed by faith as well.
It’s all by faith! In fact, if we
are not walking by faith on a
moment-by-moment basis, the
life we are living is not the
Christian life at all. Instead,
it’s only an imitation, a going-
through-the-motions effort to
live like we think Christians
are supposed to live. But that
is not a life that is pleasing
to God, as Hebrews 11:6
says: “Now without faith it is
impossible to please him, for
the one who approaches God
must believe that he exists
and that he rewards those who
seek him.”
The saddest part of see
ing Christians walk by sight
instead of by faith is knowing
they haven’t experienced the
miracle-working power of
God. Vance Havner, the emi
nent Southern Baptist evan
gelist, used to say about those
in the Bible who walked by
faith, “they saw the invisible,
they chose the imperishable,
and they did the impossible!”
How often do you and I
witness God doing something
impossible in our life? It
ought to be as often as we
have needs we cannot meet,
goals we cannot achieve, rela
tionships we cannot mend, or
dreams we cannot fill in our
own strength.
The key verse in the New
Testament on walking by faith
is 2 Corinthians 5:7: “For we
walk by faith, not by sight.”
While easy to quote, the
verse’s meaning and import is
revealed by noting its context.
In 2 Corinthians chapter 4,
the apostle Paul talked about
being an “earthen vessel” in
which God had deposited
His glorious Gospel. He
described the numerous suf
ferings and hardships his ap
ostolic band had experienced
from those who did not be
lieve. In spite of his travails,
he lived by faith: “We also
believe and therefore speak....
[Meaning] we do not look at
the things, which are seen,
but at the things which are not
seen. For the things, which
are seen, are temporary, but
the things which are not seen
are eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:
13, 18).
The apostle Paul said in
chapter five of 2 Corinthians
that, while he would prefer to
be in heaven with Christ, he
was able to continue his walk
on earth, in spite of hardships,
because “we walk by faith,
not by spirit” (2 Corinthians
5:7).
If ever there was a small
book to be studied on how to
walk by faith, it is the record
presented in Hebrews chapter
11. This is a record of those
in the Old Testament who
lived and died by faith. There
was Abel, who made a “pre
sentation” to God by faith,
and Enoch who demonstrated
the “possibilities” of walking
by faith. Noah’s walk was the
“performance” of faith, and
Abraham’s long walk with
God revealed the “progress”
of faith. Sarah waited on a

Neighbor Hood
By Keith Hood
Dear Jesus,
I have believed that You are the Son of God. I have also
announced long and loud that You are the Christ, the
Messiah, Who is to come and deliver
Your people from the tyranny of world
oppression. I have publicly railed against
religious leaders whose hypocrisy is
believed first and foremost by them and
then by the masses who dwell less on
institutionalized religion. I have chal
lenged public figures in the secular realm
who wield a mighty influence. These have
collectively reduced me to the oppression
of this prison cell which is succeeding to compress further
my already wrung out spirit.
Now the only freedom I find on the confining side of
these bars is the freedom with which my doubts fly, faster
and faster, louder and louder, bashing me with words and
scowls of arrogance. They accuse me: “You are on the
wrong side of history! Look at yourself, you fool! You
speak of this Jesus as if he were a god and what’s it got
you? Mockery! Torture! You’ll die before you get out of
this rat hole and you have only yourself to blame! You
deluded idiot!”
So please, Sir, I am literally about to lose my head. I
need a word from You even if it seems to flow from the
logic of absurdity. Are You the Expected One, or shall we
look for someone else?’’(Matthew 11:3)
Your Beloved Cousin, John.
My Dearly Beloved Cousin, John,
As I arrived to first greet you in My mother’s womb
causing you to leap for joy while you, too, were in your
mother’s womb (Luke 1:41), so without laying human eyes
upon you now, I reply to your letter with this message by
the agency of another:
“The blind receive sight and the lame walk, the lepers
are cleansed and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and
the poor have the Gospel preached to them. And blessed is
he who does not take offense at Me.” (Matthew 11:5-6)
Your Forever Faithful Cousin, Jesus.
Dear Readers of the Lee County Ledger,
Please remember My people in Sudan who are being per
secuted by those who take offense at Me. Many have died
due to murderous hatred. Pray for those left behind. Pray
for those who think they are doing a service to My Father
but are not. Pray that many will even come to a personal
relationship with Me through these atrocities against My
people, who are called by My Name.
Your Good Shepard and theirs,
Jesus
