Offer Aid
The Lee County Board of
Education adopted a tentative
millage rate that is the same
as last year based on a rec
ommendation by Dr. Larry
Walters, Superintendent, at
their meeting Monday night,
September 12. The school
board will meet Thursday,
September 29 at 4:30 p.m. to
formally adopt the millage
rate.
Although the school board
approved the millage rate
at the same level as last
year, new growth in the
county reflects approximately
$700,000 additional revenue
in the current year budget.
Addressing a growing
concern of many Lee County
citizens, Dr. Walters dis
cussed the need to insure that
out of county students are
not attending classes in Lee
County. Dr. Walters noted
that many citizens are saying
that they are paying taxes to
support the school system
and feel it is unfair for chil
dren from out of county to
attend Lee County schools.
Dr. Walters will work with
school administrators and
make a recommendation to
the board of education at
their October meeting on
ways of verifying residency
of all students. Currently,
once residency has been
established, the student does
not have to provide proof of
residency again. Frank Grif
fin, board member, suggested
that residency be verified
each year.
Teachers of the Year from
each of Lee County schools
were recognized by the board
of education. Receiving
recognition from the school
board were Trina Muse
from Kinchafoonee Primary
School, Kathie Entz from
Lee County Primary, Cathy
Goodin from Lee County
Elementary, Wendy Edwards
from Twin Oaks Elemen
tary, Amarillis Garcia from
Lee County Middle School
and Kim Hopkins from Lee
County High.
The board approved a
request from Tom Matheny,
LCHS Cross Country Coach,
to take the cross country
team to Marianna, Florida,
to compete in the Marianna
Invitational on October 15
and 16, 2005.
Paula Carter’s, LCMS Cho
ral Director, request to take
the LCMS chorus students
to Carnegie Hall March 24
0 28 was approved by the
board of education as well as
a request from Sharon King,
to take LCMS Team Quest to
Orlando, Florida from March
23 - 25, 2006.
Betty Soliberry, from
Albany Area Community
Service Board, was re-ap-
pointed to Lee County High
School Council as a business
representative.
