Sue Johnson
Sue Johnson, 92, of Lee
County, died Thursday,
January 26, 2006 at the Mon
tezuma Health Care Center,
Montezuma, GA.
Her funeral service was Sat
urday at Crown Hill Cemetery.
The Rev. Michael A. McAfee
officiated.
A native of McRae, GA,
she had lived in Lee County
since 1957. Mrs. Johnson was
a member of the Albany First
United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her hus
band: Royce Johnson, Mon
tezuma, GA; 2 sons: Ralph
Broyles and his wife Lorinda,
Bascom, FL, Stuart Johnson,
Leesburg; 6 grandchildren; 5
great-grandchildren.

Ruth Adams Head
Ruth Adams Head, 87, of
Albany, died Thursday, Janu
ary 26, 2006 at Phoebe Putney
Memorial Hospital.
Her funeral service was
Monday at the Chapel of
Bayview Cemetery, Pensacola,
FL with interment in Bayview
Cemetery.
A native of Alamo, GA,
she had lived in Albany since
1949. She moved to Pensacola,
FL with her husband in 1977,
and moved back to Albany
in 2003. Mrs. Head moved to
Albany and opened the Dairy
Shop Restaurant at Jackson
St. and Roosevelt St. She them
went to five points and opened
the Southern Bell Restaurant.
Her last restaurant was the
Embers Restaurant in East
Albany. After the Embers
closed, she worked with the
First National Bank (now Sun-
trust Bank). Mrs. Head was a
member of the Daughters of
the Nile, Warrington Elkettes,
and the Myrtle Grove Wom
en’s Club. She was a member
of Myrtle Grove Methodist
Church in Pensacola. She was
preceded in death by her hus
band, James Ray Head.
Survivors include her
brother: Don Adams, Al
bany; nieces and nephews:
Jimmy Ray Adams and his
wife Cynthia, Pensacola, FL,
Walter D. Adams, Jr. and his
wife Debbie, Jacksonville,
FL, Carolyn McDonald and
her husband Clifford, Albany,
Shirley Causey and her hus
band James, Leesburg, Peggy
Nowles, Dothan, AL, Wanda
Shattles and her husband Ray,
Albany, James Hatcher, Ft.
Lauderdale, FL; 3 cousins;
great nieces and nephews.

Stephen Upthegrove Ben
nett, 54, of Leesburg, died
Thursday, January 26, 2006
at Phoebe Putney Memorial
Hospital in Albany, GA.
The memorial service was
held Sunday at St. Andrews
Lutheran Church in Plains,
GA. Pastor Charles Thompson
officiated.
A native of West Palm
Beach, FL, Mr. Bennett
worked with Georgia Trans
mission as an Environmental
Technician. He attended St.
Andrews Lutheran Church
in Pains. Mr. Bennett was
preceded in death by his
dad, William Grant, and his
brother, Jeff Bennett.
Mr. Bennett is survived
by his wife of over 25 years,
Denise Bennett; a son, Jeffery
Bennett; a daughter, Stephanie
Bennett, all of Leesburg; his
mother, Patricia McFarland
and her husband Stu of IN;
two sisters: Kathy VanderMo-
len and her husband Steven
of Okeechobee, FL and Mary
Lufty of IN; and his aunt and
uncle, Red and Merle Upthe
grove of Logansville.

Audition Call for
“Relatively Speaking”
at Theatre Albany

Theatre Albany will conduct
auditions for “Relatively
Speaking” by Alan Ayck
bourn, Saturday and Sunday,
February 4 and 5 at 2:00 p.m.
at the theatre, located at 514
Pine Avenue.
The delectable comedy
concerns a young couple,
Greg and Ginny, who find
themselves most compatible
but she is determined to be off
for the day, against his wishes.
She insists she is going to her
parents. Well Greg just bets
he beats her to that address,
and he does so. Shelia and
Philip, the ‘parents’, do not at
first understand him correctly;
for Ginny’s parents are really
in Australia, and she has come
not to visit parents but to tell
her former employer and lover
that all is over between them.
Director Mark Costello is
looking to cast 2 males and 2
females. Greg and Ginny are
in the 20 to 30 age range and
Philip and Shelia are 40 to 50.
Auditions will consist of cold
readings from the script. Au
ditions are open to the com-
munity-at-large. Rehearsals
are set to begin February 19
with performances scheduled
for March 31 through April
15. For further information,

EAGLE POND ROAD
(SPLOST PAVING)
There will be a meeting to discuss the
potential paving of Eagle Pond Road from
US 19 to Smithville Road. All citizens
living on Eagle Pond Road between US
19 and Smithville Road are invited to
attend. The meeting will be held February
7, 2006 at 6:30 pm in the Administration
building located at 104 Leslie Hwy. Your
commissioner, Jackie Sizemore, will be
there to address any questions.

New Smithville Officer Takes Oath Of Office
Alfred Dowdell received his oath of office as a
Smithville Police Officer from City Attorney Tommy
Coleman. Officer Dowdell has law enforcement
experience as both a deputy and jailer. He has
worked in Lee and Sumter Counties.

Cpl. Henry J. Duncan III
worked a criminal trespass
case at Lee County High
School January 25. The com
plainant, a student, reported
to Cpl. Duncan that someone
scratched his car on the pas
senger side.
Lt. Gregory Barrett was
dispatched to the area of Palm
Street and Magnolia Avenue
in reference to a possible fight.
Lt. Barrett spoke to a person
with a head injury but was
told by the person that he fell.
No case was made regarding
the incident.
Ptl. Jason T. Anthony
worked a case involving theft
or mislaid property. Ptl. An
thony was told by the com
plainant that she left her cell
phone at a convenience store
and when she returned to the
store the phone was gone.
Information was obtained on
the missing phone.
Major David Bullington
worked a case in the 100
block of Pine Avenue in
which it was reported that a
person had a gun in his pos
session. Upon investigation,
the gun was a starter pistol
that shots blanks. It was taken
to the police department as
possible stolen property. The
person was released.
Fredy Alexander Melen
dez of 128 Stonegate Manor
Circle, was arrested by Lt.
Monterey Moody for failure
to appear warrant. The bench
warrant was issued June 23,
2005.
Ptl. Jason T. Anthony
worked a gas drive-off Janu
ary 23 at a business on Walnut
Street.
Sgt. David Turner worked a
lost or mislaid property case
January 20. The victim lost a
cell phone in the 100 block of
Magnolia Street.
