Darwin’s Theory
Who’s your daddy? Abra
ham or Moses? You might
say, “Neither one is my dad.”
The Apostle Paul says you
are either a son of Abraham
or a son of Moses. In Gala
tians 3 we find out who the
true sons of Abraham are and
who are children of Moses.
You will be surprised. In
spite of popular opinion, the
sons of Abraham are not the
nation of Israel.
Paul says, “Even so Abra
ham believed God, and it was
reckoned to him as righteous
ness. Therefore, be sure that
it is those who are of faith
who are sons of Abraham”
(Galatians 3:6-7). The true
sons of Abraham are those
who walk and live by faith.
These are blessed by God
(Galatians 3:9).
What does it matter? Well I
guess it doesn’t matter if you
would choose work, burden,
and guilt over life, joy, and
a party. Sons of Moses can
be very religious people,
but they are always working
for the Lord for acceptance.
They are more like Martha
who was working for the
Lord than Mary who was
having communion with
the Lord (Luke 10:38-42).
Trying to work your way to
Heaven will bring no money,
exhaust you, and ultimately
pull you in the opposite
direction than you were
trying to go. Sons of Moses
are burdened people. They
never seem to understand that
by faith you can cast your
cares upon Christ because
He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7).
There is no need for you to
be burdened and to work for
a salvation which has already
been delivered to you.
On Edgerly Avenue in Al
bany where I grew up, there
are street lights that we used
to love to climb. The neigh
borhood boys, and a couple
of girls, could shimmy all
the way up the smooth metal
pole and touch the light. The
climb up was a lot of work
for a little kid trying to pull
his weight up, but the slide
down was a blast. Why was
this the case? Because one
was working, and the other
was enjoying God’s law of
gravity.
The good news about the
light of Jesus is that you don’t
have to climb to Him, be
cause He has come down to
you. Accepting Him and His
work on the cross by faith
is what makes you a son of
Abraham. If you like climb
ing poles and trying to lift
your own weight... go ahead
and stay a son of Moses. As
for me, I have found a free
dom in Christ in being a son
of Abraham by faith and it is
a Heavenly blast-the joy of
the slide without the climb.

What The Bible Teaches
By Frank Taylor
In obedience to the will of
God the sinless, eternal Son
of God
shed His
blood to
cover sin
forever.
A literal
transla
tion of 1
John 1:
7 reads,
“The
blood Taylor
of Jesus
Christ, God’s Son, keeps on
cleansing us from all sin.”
Though it was shed nearly
two thousand years ago, the
blood of Christ has full power
to cleanse. Fellowship with
God is possible because of the
lasting worth of the blood of
Jesus Christ.
The apostle John treats
misconceptions about the
basis of fellowship between
the child and his Father in 1
John 1:8 and 10. Some might
say that fellowship with God
is possible because man
has lost his sin nature. John
denies that we attain a state of
perfection in this life. Para
phrasing verse 8, we read:
“If we say that we no longer
have a sin nature, we deceive
ourselves, and the truth is not
in us. “Satan would like us
to believe that we are beyond
his power to tempt, and thus
become easy prey when we
let down our guard. The sin
nature is ever with us. Fellow
ship with the Father is not the
result of attaining a state of
holiness in this life.
Paraphrasing 1 John 1:
10 reveals a second mis
conception. “If we say that
what we did was not really
sin, we make God a liar and
His Word is not in us.” For
some people sin is heinous
wrongdoing such as murder or
adultery, rather than the way
wardness that plagues most
of us day after day. But only
God can define sin and mak
ing God a liar by winking at
anything unlike His absolute
holiness.
1 John 1:9 states the
principle whereby the death
of Christ covers our sins so
that we may regain fellow
ship with the Father. “If we
confess our sins, He is faithful
and just to forgive us our sins,
and to cleanse us from all un
righteousness.” “We” refers to
the family of believers. When
the believer sins, the blood
of Christ is instantaneously,
automatically applied to the
believer (1 John 1:7), main
taining his sonship with the
Father, but sin has broken fel
lowship. My child may strain
our relationship by disobey
ing, but he is still my child.
Disobedience does not affect
position, it affects fellowship.
To be restored to fellowship
with God we must confess our
sin. Confession is not general
izing before we drop off to
sleep, “If I’ve done anything
bad today, forgive me.” The
word “confess” means to say
the same thing that God says
about our sin. God points a
finger at sin and says, “That
was sin.” When the Spirit of
God illuminates our minds so
that we judge our sin as God
judges it, without making an
excuse and without attempt
ing to cover up, then we have
made confession. Confes
sion is to say, “Father, I have
sinned.” This is difficult for
us because we like to defend
ourselves, to excuse ourselves,
to rationalize our sinfulness
and so avoid God's assess
ment of sin. The prodigal
son’s first words to his father
were, “Father, I have sinned.”
He was restored on the basis
of that confession.
If believers confess their
sin, God is faithful and just to
forgive us. God is faithful to
Himself and to His Word in
that He places confessed sin
under the blood of Christ. He
is just in that He forgives His
children’s sins because of the
everlasting value of the blood

“Do you know where you're going to? Do you like the things
that life is showing you? Where are you going to? Do you
know? ” Diana Ross:
Theme from Mahogany.
I’ve stood before people and emphati
cally stated that I can tell them what God’s
will is for their lives, and that I can prove
it with just one verse. “Commit your works
unto the Lord and thy thoughts will be
established.”(Proverbs 16:3) Pretty simple.
One translation reads like this: “Commit
your works to the Lord and your plans will
be established.”
So there it is. Commit your every work
to the Lord and His plan will be realized in your life. What
a promise! Are you patient enough for that? I find that too
often I am not. I want to plan my next 5 years, 10 years and so
forth. I want to know that I am not spinning my wheels as it
were. I want to know that when I cross the finish line that I got
there with the most and had the most impact. I like looking
at the big picture and to me that involves looking at life from
the end to the beginning. The problem with that is I can’t see
the forest for the trees. So how do I go about gaining a Godly
vision?
A Godly vision becomes focused through perception adjust
ments such as Isaiah had in Isaiah chapter six.
1) He had his perception of God adjusted. He saw God as
majestic: “I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne high and lifted
up and His train filled the temple.”(v.l) He saw the holiness
of God. Four large and powerful angels called “seraphim”
call out to one another saying “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of
hosts: the whole earth is full of His glory.”(v.3) Isaiah is struck
with the power of God: “And the posts of the door moved
(shook) at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled
with smoke.”
What was the result of Isaiah’s encounter with God and the
things of God? He has another immediate perception adjust
ment.
2) He had his perception of himself adjusted. “Then I said,
‘Woe is me for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean
lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for
mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.’”(v.5)
What happened to Isaiah is that he had just demonstrated
brokeness of spirit. God had him where he wanted him. If we
never confess our destitution in the presence of God, we can’t
experience the true forgiveness. “If we confess our sins, He is
faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.”(l John 1:9) We are the people of unclean
lips. That simply means sinfulness. Until we get a truer vision
of God, we simply cannot fathom our own depravity.
Oops! I can’t get it all in this box this week. Will finish it
next week. Go see the movie Cars. It is one of the best story
lines in any movie I’ve ever seen. We saw it twice this week.
