The YMCA will hold a ribbon cutting cer
emony and a hard hat tour of the new facility
Thursday at 11:30 a.m.
The ribbon cutting ceremony will be at
the YMCA Branch Office located at 101 B.
Walnut Avenue in Leesburg. Refreshments
will be served.
Following the ribbon cutting ceremony,
a hard hat tour be given of the new YMCA
facility located on Robert B. Lee Drive.
Leesburg Police Files Weekly Report
Chief Charles Moore of
the Leesburg Police Depart
ment reports that officers
worked several incidents
and cases recently includ
ing cases involving posses
sion of marijuana less than
an ounce, simple battery
(domestic violence), criminal
trespass, speeding in excess
of maximum limits, driving
under the influence, crimi
nal damage to property and
burglary.
Tony Rizzo, of 137 Calla
way Street, was charged June
23 with possession of mari
juana less than an ounce by
Capt. Chris Prokesh. Based
on probable cause, Rizzo was
stopped by Officer Marcus
Lemacks and Capt. Prokesh.
A search of his vehicle re
vealed marijuana.
Greg Edward Bacon, of 111
Tallassee Trail, was charged
with simple battery June 22
by Sgt. David Turner follow
ing an incident that occurred
at that location.
Capt. Prokesh and Ptl.
Lemacks worked a criminal
trespass case that occurred at
a location in the 200 block of
Walnut Street. A brick was
thrown through a window.

charged with speeding in ex
cess of maximum limits and
driving under the influence

Lemacks. Ptl Lemacks and
Capt. Prokesh were running
stationary radar on GA Hwy
3 when Dice approached
traveling 57 m.p.h, in a 45
m.p.h, zone. Ptl. Lemacks
made a traffic stop and could
smell a strong odor of an
alcoholic beverage. Dice
tested positive on the alco-
sensor test administered by
Capt. Prokesh. Dice was
placed under arrest on the
two charges.
Sgt. David Turner worked
a criminal trespass charge
June 20 that occurred at the
recreation department in the
100 block of Starksville Ave.
A window was broken in an
attempt to gain entry to the
building.
Sgt. J. Vick investigated
a case of criminal damage
that occurred June 19 at the
high school. Damage was
done to the football field by
a vehicle.
Sgt. J. Vick worked a
burglary case that occurred
at the high school June 17.
Candy was stolen from the
concession stand.

Training
Special to the Ledger
Lee County Superior Court
Clerk Sondra Cook, recently
attended the 2008 mandatory
continuing education semi
nar for Superior Court Clerks
of Georgia at St. Simon May
19-22.
The four-day conference
was sponsored by the Supe
rior Court Clerks’ Training
Council of Georgia as well
as the Georgia Institute of
Continuing Judicial Educa
tion. It provided 15 hours of
training for Superior Court
Clerks on topics such as
alternative dispute resolu
tion, domestic violence,
election ethics commission,
update from the Superior
Court Clerks’ Cooperative
authority on the statewide
uniform automated informa
tion system for real estate
and UCC’s, new legislation
enacted by the 2008 General
Assembly that would affect
the office of the Superior
Court Clerk, as well as open
discussions on responsibili
ties and duties of the Clerk’s
office.
The continuing judicial
education training gives
Clerks an opportunity to stay
informed of any changes that
affect the Clerk’s office as
well as other valuable legal,
technological and office
management techniques. The
training is focused directly
on the duties of the Clerk’s
office that enables the Clerks
to better serve the citizens of
their county.
Mrs. Cook has served as
Superior Court Clerk of Lee
County since January 2007.

and Fitness Staff who
have strong people
skills and can assist
the YMCA in carrying
out its mission in
